10 Most Hated Companies in the U.S.

April 12, 2010 - Posted to Trends.

Americans have a love/hate relationship with corporate capitalism. According to a study by Harris Interactive, we appreciate good leadership, but cast the evil eye on companies that received the biggest bite of government bailout funds.

In fact, nine of the 10 most disliked companies cited in the study received the biggest bailouts. Fannie Mac and Freddie Mac alone received $70 billion of the total $180 billion dispersed by the Federal Treasury, making them the third- and first-worst rated companies, respectively.

The companies with the best reputations, including Amazon.com, Google and Intel, are known as much for their products as their first-class management.

Here's a rather cynical look (OK, very cynical look) at the 10 most-hated companies on the list.

10. Delta Airlines
Delta Airlines is the only company in the top (or bottom) 10 that didn't receive government bailout funds. They are, however, the only airline on the list to post a You Tube viral video on airline safety. Flight attendant Deltalina's high cheekbones have drawn more than 1.6 million hits in 15 months. Go figure.

9. Bank of America
The largest bank holding company in the U.S. received $45 billion in government bailout funds, the fifth largest amount received by any entity. Members of the U.S. House of Representatives have claimed the bank misused the bailout money, citing the bank's refusal of loan applications from small-business owners, as well as stiffer terms on members' credit cards.

8. JP Morgan Chase
Claims surfaced in April that the financial-services firm was instructing homeowners to stop making mortgage payments so they could qualify for loan modifications. Morgan Chase then repossessed their homes when they followed the bank's advice. (The case is pending in Federal Court.) What an excellent use of their $25 billion bailout. The bank may just be following the example of founder John Pierpont Morgan, who had a knack for investing in failures, like the Titanic and a never-built subway system designed to compete with the  London Underground.

7. General Motors
GM ranked as the world's second-largest automaker in 2008. One year later, the Detroit-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Such a grave fall from grace earned the automaker $50.7 billion in government bailout money, the third-most amount of funds received by any company. While the terms of the deal required CEO Rick Wagoner resign, he still received more than $10 million in unemployment benefits. Meanwhile, former auto workers are running out of options and unemployment checks.

6. Chrysler
A $10.76 billion bailout earned Chrysler sixth place. Chrysler made other poor choices, as well. For example, after being acquired by Daimler AG in 1998, the German automaker dumped Chrysler after just nine years. Two years later, Chrysler filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and hooked up with Italy's Fiat. The bailout billions no doubt helped the automaker get over the ruptures.

5. Goldman Sachs
Goldman Sachs released its 2009 annual report this month, revealing it made net revenues of $45.17 billion and paid bonuses of over $16 billion to employees. It's shareholder letter claims the company "repaid TARP money, but didn't mention the massive new taxpayer subsidies it continues to enjoy." Yet still, thanks to contacts in high places, Goldman received -- and continues to receive -- enormous assistance from taxpayers, including $10 billion in government bailout funds.

4. Citigroup
The banking behemoth was happy as a clam in 1998; forming one of the world's largest mergers in history with financial conglomerate Travelers Group. Citigroup suffered huge losses in just 10 years and received $45 billion in TARP funds.

3. Fannie Mae
If you've taken out a mortgage, you've likely heard of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA) is known by the friendly nickname Fannie Mae, but Americans are less than happy with their "buddy." Fannie's secures and purchases mortgages to guarantee home-buying funds will be readily available. By lending money to borrowers with poor credit, Fannie Mae helped create the subprime mortgage crisis of 2007, when home foreclosures became common and property prices went into the tank. And that, children, is why Fannie Mac received $75.2 billion in government bail-out funds (the most received) while earning third place as Most Hated Company.

2. AIG
The American International Group is commonly known as the insurance corporation that was too big to fail. After going through a "liquidity crisis" in 2008, AIG's credit ratings fell like a brick. Naturally, the Federal Reserve Bank extended $85 billion in credit to help the company meet increasing obligations. AIG originally was set to receive $195 for its financial-products division, but agreed to a $20 million reduction before granting more than $100 million in employee bonuses. AIG ended up receiving the second-highest amount in bailout funds while earning the great displeasure of Americans.

1. Freddie Mac
Not only did Freddie earn first place this year but the Harris Interactive Reputation Score gave it a  38.94, the lowest recorded score since Enron's 30.05 in 2005. Part of this enmity is owed to financial wizard Warren Buffet's denunciation in 2008. At the time, Freddie and Fannie owned or guaranteed about half of the $12 trillion mortgage market. As a result of Buffet's statement, Freddie received the lowest investment grade possible. Naturally, the government granted Freddie $50.7 billion in bailout funds, the fourth-highest amount received.

I can tell the above positive comment about Bank of America comes from an employee because it is full of errors and it is anonymous. Nice try. Enjoy your plummeting stock prices. You deserve it.

WHY does it NOT surprise me that GENERAL MOTORS IS 1 of the "most" HATED companies in AMERICA! Personally, they made a promise to me with regards to "trade repurchase", and then they "denied" it. Some years later, I fought them with my CASE #. I spent far too much $$$ in phone calls to them.

Do a Sallie Mae search, and you'll see how many websites are dedicated to hating that @*$&^ -***! I paid off my loans, and they keep pursuing me for years trying to collect from scratch, and no one in the government helps. Stay away from them!

You forgot the Federal Reserve. This privately owned company and who knows who owns them has this country by the throat. Congress needs to take back the making of our coinage and base our dollar on the gold standard again.

Personally, I think WalMart should top the list for everything from forcing third world companies to abuse their workers' human rights just to get a contract with W, destroying American competitive manufacturing, abusing their own American workers' human rights. My son who has a college degree a medical problem that disqualifies him from the occupations he trained for, has worked for them for several years. It hasn't been pretty. First, W policy is NOT to hire full time workers and to prevent part timers to getting full time, much less, God forbid, overtime.. They cost more in insurance. His supervisors hold him to a much higher standard of performance than they do themselves. Evidently, 97% daily success isn't enough. Yet they interfere and prevent him from reaching the other 3%. They have made clear to the workers at their store that if they join a union, the store will disappear, be renamed or opened with new workers. That isn't the American way, which, al least in theory and ideal, is based on the worker worthy of his hire and the dignity of all work done well. May WalMart burn in hell.

Hey Dave , you criticise people for complaining about banks, saying they should learn to manage their money better. So my friend turn about is fair play, the TARP BANKS MISMANAGED THEIR MONEYso get your head out of your butt DAVE and lets see that these TARP BANKS ARE LIQUIDATED just as they are liquidating their customers assets by forclosure. The people have one HUGE card left to play and that is never to give any buisness to a TARP BANK AGAIN. And never support an budiness which uses TARP BANKS to sponsor their credit cards. Any bank without customer support will fold. The fait of the TARP BANKS is in their customers hands , if the customers refuse to do further business with TARP BANKS, they are done..And the job congress and the senate should have done will come to pass.

Delta should be number one. They must use the movie Night Hawks as a training aid when training their flight staff.

Chrysler Corporation had all their cash raided by Mercedes Benz. In simple terms they where hosed. Chrysler had a really good innovative engineering and design department. Your information is completely wrong. I love reporters who do not know what they are doing. Idiots all of you. This country gets hosed by foreign companies, stupid Government excessive regulation and finnaly we elect community organizers as presidents. How stupid do we look to the rest of the world. Our auto Industry has been brought to it's knees. Like every other industry. What do we have left? Ask yourself what do we make here anymore? When is enough enough?

It's funny how people always want to focus their hatred on the government. The only thing corrupting our political leaders, our foreign policy, our domestic policy, etc., is these and other companies. Why do they get a pass while the generic "government" villian, the same people that protect us from the excesses of these comapnies is blamed for every ill this country has? The same people that are buying and selling our government remain blameless. It just proves how shortsighted and clueless the public really is in this country.

I think that the comments about socialism are mistaken. As I understand it, rule by government in cooperation with major financial interests, which is what we seem to have evolved into is facism. There was a book on the subject called Friendly Facism. I don't recall the author's name, but he was an associate of the late Hubert Humphrey. If someone thinks that this definition is incorrect, would be interested to hear it. The "Friendly" in the title refers to the fact that sociopathic corporations have spent agreat deal of time and effort to convince us that they are necessary to the survival of the ordinary American citizen, and have waged a largely successful public relations campaign urging us to accept them as our rulers. I don't care which bank or oil company is the worst, these companies ALL, in the friendliest way, are selling us into serfdom. The old saying that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer has never been more true than today.

It's sad but Delta used to be one of the most respected, reverred airlines Before I saw this report, I was thinking about writing the Delta Airline President over concerns about the flight staff, specifically the attendants. I fly many various airlines and the Delta employees actually appear to hate their jobs. I have even been on a shuttle bus where the topic of discussion was about "dumb" passengers. Delta needs to overhaul the "attitude" within the organization before other airlines manage to outpace them with SERVICE.

Why are so many so quick to blame anyone and everyone but themselves for not properly handling their finances? No-one forces you to get a credit card. If you don't like the fees or interest rates, don't take the card - learn to pay cash. You don't have a right to live on 120% of your income without a cost. Maybe if credit cards weren't unsecured loans, the fees and rateds wouldn't need to be so high. These same folks complained about the heartless banks when they said 'no' to home ownership. The govt gets involved thinking all are entitled to home ownership, lowering the qualitfying standards (read sub-prime market). Then when the obvious happens, irresponsible people don't pay their mortgage payments, agsin, it is the banks fault for not letting them stay in their homes for free. Lack of common sense, self-respect, and most importantly personal responsibility are the real things people should be upset about. They are at the core of the economic situation, not corporate america.

Soon there will be only 5 banks in the United States. Bank of America, Chase, Wells Fargo, Citigroup among them. Merger and deregulation is the name of the game. Rape pillage and plunder the American public. Greed. corruption, abuse. Our American currency has the words "In God we trust" on it. These greedy banks will fail. They don't run the show, God does.

"Tom" sounds like a corporate apologist. They are, without a doubt, the most destructive, negative presence on the American scene today. Not ALL of them, but enough of them to warrant great distrust and anger. I worked for one for 27 years and am quite familiar with the inner workings--the complete lack of care for "customers" (only caring about revenue from customers), the rampant incompetence (even in highly technological positions), overwhelming competition between managers of all levels--advancement being the most important aim of all or most of them, whether it helps/improves the company and its "service" or not. Tom sounds like he knows as little about what he speaks as most of the "tea baggers".

Hey Butterfly - I'm in about the same situation as you. I have worked hard along side of my husband paying for our home and raising our 3 kids. My husband became ill 3 years ago and died last year, I had to leave work and be his caretaker. We went thru both of our 401ks to pay all the expenses that bc/bs would't pay, just kept saying it was our co-payment. Of course the govt. doesn't help at all when you are a caretaker. I can't find a job anywhere, even though i have some very good skills, I've never seen a time in all my life where I cannot get work. I am desperately trying to keep my house, I only owe 20k, its roughly worth 220k and nobody will give me a new loan until I can show proof of income. But I can't allow myself to get depressed, I have to keep trying to find work and hang in there with the little bit of savings I have left. I hope this economic crisis turns itself around - and hope Obama sees and knows what is going on. ITS TRUE the banks just won't lend money right now. I've also never seen a time when you were unable to use collateral to get a loan. Something is not right and its hitting people over 50 really hard! Things have got to change and I mean fast. I They say we just have to hang in there a little whie longer - Things need to change quick. THIS WORLD HAS TO STOP THE GREEDINESS!!

What I don't understand is why the government is using taxpayer dollars to bail out these mega corps and then just letting them go about their business. I think that our money should buy something...........like a controlling share of the businesses themselves! Or perhaps these businesses should be broken up into MUCH smaller conglomerates who's employees would consist of the original employees of the larger original company (LIKE BELL TELEPHONE). The problem is that the government doesn't have ANY control of the corporations at work here, because the corporations have paid for most of the legislators who make the rules to be in power. WHO DOES THAT MEAN IS REALLY IN CONTROL? The answer is that YOUR laws are created by corporations like BANKS and INSURANCE COMPANIES. Multinational corporations act independantly of the laws that govern you or anyone you know. Competition and Independance are the roots of the great tree of THE GOOD OL' USA. If Mega companies who have charged 20, 30, (40?) percent interest on loans given to the hard working people of our country can't make it in a competitive environment, THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO FAIL. This would create a mess, but hey....starting from scratch is ALL AMERICAN BABY! Thank you for reading this far and GOD BLESS AMERICA/AMERICANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted April 23, 2010 by Bri

I'm just as upset with our government for letting this happen, and then bailing all the companies out. It's called mismanagement by the people who are out of touch with America. Our overpaid politicians, and the overpaid upper-management of the companies they favor. There is a revolution coming in the US, and big business and big government won't like it.

State Farm Insurance and several other insurance companies should be on this list as well. They have been ripping people off for years - taking the premiums and working overtime to deny claims. They are number one. They don't need a bailout; they rip off those who try to trust them to live up to their fiscal - got paid - responsibility.

I have been trying to get a loan mod since Sept thru Bank of America. They are a real gem to try and work with. I was actually lied to, put off, hung up on, transferred a million times, just to have my mod DENIED and then they could not provide me a valid reason, they weren't sure without transferring me again to a so called "specialist". They never provided me with a letter or phone call to let me know, I just happened to call. The gov'mt needs to stop with the bailout crap and start helping the americans that are working and trying to keep what they have. The banks did this to themselves by lying to get the loans approved. People need to stop using banks altogether. I hope they all go under!

As Homer Simpson would say, " Praise Jebus"! Which has nothing to do with anything going on here i just think it's funny line but i guess you would have to see the entire scene to really get it. Sorry if I confused anyone. This is what I really wanted to say. Here is a more accurate summary of the most recent corporate depression. (With great assistance from their henchmen also known as the GOP, the right wing media machine and a few corporatist Democrats). You may have to copy and paste it. http://tinyurl.com/28523by It really could go back to Ronald Reagan and his deregulating/union busting / "trickle down" economics A.K.A. "free market" economics which i believe is the most current name for it. They give it a new catch phrase every decade or so but its the same old make the rich even richer and every one else as poor as possible so they are forced to work 3 job's to barely survive and they will eventually learn their place as peasants and thank us ruling elite's when we piss, A.K.A. "trickle down", on them now and then. I suggest reading "The Shock Doctrine" by Naomi Cline and "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" by John Perkins to help understand what’s going on. Turn off your TV and radio talking corporate heads and educate yourselves! Do you think Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh have multimillion-dollar contracts with the corporations they work for because they are so entertaining, or to bring you the truth or represent the average American? They are millionaires because they are master manipulators and have been used to divide Americans so we don't all turn on them, the “Corporate Elite”, but instead fight amongst ourselves. The "left" vs. the "right" pointing fingers and sometimes gun's at each other. Yes, please "Wake up " America before you go killing any more of your fellow Americans. At least get a wider perspective than what’s on Fox “ News” and right wing talk radio as well as all the there printed propaganda. I am not saying I am smarter than any one else or anything like that. I am saying that it’s foolish to believe the words of people that are paid to lie to you and not even take the time to try to find out what the truth is on any given subject. I don’t care if your liberal or conservative, see things from more than one perspective, think with your own mind, and formulate your own opinion. Have a great day and best of luck to all laid off , depressed people . Don't give up, you are not alone we are all in this crap together . From the Tea parties to left wing liberals we just need to tune out the static and and hate so we can get together and hold these people accountable for what they have done, make sure it doesn't happen again and get back to work ! Oh, and Praise Jebus! PS submitted earlier but didn't see it so trying again ,sorry if it comes up twice)

Noone should blame banks ...The regulators (U.S. Gov't) force the banks to loan money in their markets..FDMAC and FNMAY. It begins with Federal Reserve, thn toFDIC/FSLIC, dand then to the various regulaors in the Districts. The Regs are only trying to find someone to blame...except the real culprits...the Regulators themselves. I'm old and retired now...they ca't bother me...but most bank officers and board members are afraid to speak up and tell them whose really to blame. Bob

Bank of America has been on the top of my list for years. Before these banks gambled with other peoples money and ruined the world economy, BOA ruined my opportunity for a life saving bone marrow transplant. I have leukemia and due to my family's plight, the Atlanta Journal Constitutionj published a two page article in the Sunday living section. My wife had opened a benevolent account at BOA for this purpose. At the end of the article it said "Anyone who wants to help keep Joe alive go to BOA to make a contribution." Well, a lot of people went but due to a computer error BOA turned away the compassionate people who wanted to help by telling them their was no account. They even mailed back checks to donors. So they fixed the error after a week and we only ask that they pay to rerun the article along with an apology and urge people to come back. Instead they hired an expensive attorney and offered to refund the monthly service charges (which they never did). My wife contacted the governmental oversight agency and was basically laughed at and told that banks were allowed to make mistakes. While I am still fighting to stay alive for my wife and 4 children, BOA destroyed my life. With a bone marrow transplant, I would be cured instead of having to take $40,000.00 of medicine per year and unable to enjoy life being completely broke and unable to get out of bed for more than a few hours per week. I begged to speak to the CEO, Ken Lewis, at BOA. I called and left dozens of messages and wrote many letters. The one and only promise BOA made to me and kept was that I would never speak to Mr. Lewis, who ironically was on the Board for Corporate Conscience.. Maybe Mr. Lewis taught all those other CEO how to not have a conscience so they could put their paycheck over their customers and community.

Chase Manhatten Bank has the most stupid, incompetent and inefficient staff I have ever encountered in my life. I know this is redundant but I feel better doing it. They lie, cheat, and the bank is out and out fraudulent. I have been fighting them for over 3 years and have never gotten a straight or correct answer from them. They unfortunately for me bought my mortgage from another company. My lawyer has been dealing with them and even she can't get a straight answer. She went over all my paperwork and says that they owe me money, even though they claim I am behind in payments. This bank should be put out of business - shame on them and their employees. Of the hundreds of their employees I have dealt with only two had average or abpve intelligence. One woman in the escrow department seems to be mentally challenged. The bank is also mentally and ethically challenged. Every month I have to fight over the same mistakes that have been "supposedly straightened out the month before." I am fed up but have no choice but to deal with them. They should be number one.

God help all of american's. I worked for a company 31 years and was laid off last year. I'm still too young to get ss benefits. I have lost my house. I have just put all in storage I will be a suitcase lady now. I have four suitcases and other bags that I have to pack in my nine year old car. I know that I'm not on this sinking ship alone. This is a DEPRESSION folks not a recession. Now read about the company MERS about the loan downturn with wall street. It's a company that packaged all these home loans for all these banks. It was all done online. Now we as AMERICANS need to see some of these big wigs going to prison but we haven't seen that. Now when you loose your house the lender have received your down payment then your home payment monthly. Then when you loose the house it goes to auction. Guess what American's Fannie May pays the bank 80% of the home value at that point. So we need to help each other in anyway we can. When you can help someone then help them. You never know when you maybe in there shoes. I worked hard for years at a company and I was laid off when I had a co-worker that was always on the internet and taking off days when they wanted too. But dear Americans I was older then that person. I live on the computer applying for jobs. I don't talk to alot of people because yes I am depressed and I know that. At one point this year I would only go to the store at night because I didn't want to look at people during the day time. I have always been a friendly person and always wanted to help people. God help all of us American's. We have never seen anything like this in America. The last DEPRESSION there was less people in america then. Yes I'm on unemployee. Thank GOD... If they take that away right now you will also see something in america that you have never seen before. Men really can get mad and also depressed. They are not talking about how many people are taking there lifes right now. I really feel the people that are dead are the lucky ones right now. Don't have to worry about a job or place to live anymore. Being a baby boomer I learned from my parents that you work hard all your life. Just know whoever reads this long message you are not on this sinking ship alone.

Posted April 19, 2010 by Jeanne

I have read many of the comments posted and there is some truth to several of the comments. I think that we must all understand the role Bank of America plays in the livesf many people, individuals and businesses alike. What is more important in this debate is what responsibility the branch of government which oversees the banking industry puts into place while holding "them" accountable. Normal people that truly need assistance are obviously, in some situations, not receiving any assistance. The question to Mr. Obama should be, "Where do those individuals turn?", and those indivuduals certainly deserve a response to that question. Let's not blame the corporations that took the money, but yet hold those responsible for giving it away in the first place without accountability.

Posted April 19, 2010 by E

How about GMAC Mortgage? They didn't even make the list and, if memory serves me correctly, this company got 2 government bailouts. And a majority of their loans were fannie or freddie. Mr Obama says that they really don't want my house. Brother! I'm here to tell you, these pricks want my house in a bad way! It doesn't matter that I didn't work for 6 months. It doesn't matter that I tried to get a loan modification before I couldn't pay my mortgage. It doesn't matter that I am on my 2nd attempt at a loan modification with them even as we are rushing headlong towards forclosure. Yah, they don't want my house!? Talk about hate... HARRY MARSH IS AN IDIOT.... He doesn't understand that the TEA PARTY people are PRO-AMERICA and hate to see the way the current morons in power are giving the US and our FREEDOMS away one by one, increasing our taxes, holding off drilling, taking over public companies, bailing out companies that piss away funds, dictating earnigs of executives, weakening our military and defense systems, giving in to illegal aliens....just to name a few. You must be a liberal democrat. Maybe on welfare?? Government subsidy?? Get your eyes open. Look at what's happenning to our country. Pray for a major turn around, now......before we have to learn to speak Chinese or Russian.

Posted April 19, 2010 by Tom

Im 25 years old...and i have set back and wondered things myself. I dont have a clue when it comes to politics, but one thing that always stays on my mind about taxes is this. Why does the government give these large, profitable, companies tax cuts...I mean, come on, they can afford more than you and I!!! Were are our tax cuts? They use our tax money to bail out these companies, then not tax them, and yet these companies are robing us blind. SERIOUSLY!! Its like we are getting Screwed TWICE!!! I dont know much about other countries...but it seems to me that we are afraid of our government...some countries government are afraid of their people!!! Were is Martin Luther King when we need leadership like him...hell, he stood up to the government!!! When will we get off our tails, and do it? instead we just sit back, complain, write it down, and go with the flow. If we stood up, and did something, we could make a difference!! We only get screwed when we are lying down and taking it!!!!

I believe B-O-A made the list just though they would be #2 with Chase #1!!!!! i have the unfortunate pleasure of having a morgage w/ chase and all other accounts w/ B-O-A. I spent time blaming the government also but now i think that with all that has hapened why is my bank and morgage company taking the side of the gov. and not their customers. I think the bail out proves we are not their customers we are the inconvience. Gov. is payiing them big bucks so screw a couple 100k. I have been paying on my house for 5 yrs and thanks to chase's inconsistancy, lack of communication and a seemingly endless array of hold music tapes i am back @ square 1. I just made my "1st payment" this month. And why does it take an act of congress(no pun intented) to get your banking history from BOA?!? They take what little $ i have happily into their bank then hit me with 10 overdraft fees when my paycheck bounced (haha, sigh- story for another time) . The overdrafts are food, atm w/d and the like all clearing that same day as was my morgage check---10 purchases totaling less than $25. at $35 penalty each. Well chase "lost the payment" for the morgage (in fairness after 2 days that was reconciled) and BOA got their $350 from me and all i got was a hole in my wallet,

Bank of America gave me such a run-around, daily adding more and more requirements for an equity loan that I finally withdrew my application. After reading about an "accidental" forclosure, I guess I was smart to have with them. Horribly ungreatful of them after we taxpayers bailed them out. Retired classroom teacher..

GM would top my list. Not only did they receive a huge amount of money, but they have the financing also. They have GMAC, they have changed some of their banking to Ally Bank, they are now financing vehicle purchases for Chrysler. With all of this money flowing in, they are turning down requests for modifications on home loans. Why would they care? They will be able to use these losses for more bailouts from the government and/or proving why they should not have to repay their debts.

Have had 2 BOA cards for over 10 years one had negative balance the other was using only 60% of aviable credit I had never had been late on a payment I called them and told them i had lost my job and asked if they would lower my interest rate so how did they reward me for always making my payment on time and being honest and telling the truth they closed one account and lowered the credit line on the other to only 500.00 above the balance these actions will have a negative effect on my credit and lower the score which i have worked all my life to have a excellent rating THANKS BANK OF AMERICA FOR HELPING THE HONEST PEOPLE IN AMERICA HOPE YOUR TOP EXECUTIVES ENJOY THEIR BIG BONUSES

Posted April 19, 2010 by SW

Bank of America really should be at the top of this list, I know for certain that they purposely hold up loans, and sales (particularly short sales) for many reasons such as pure mismanagement, and pure greed with the idea that interest rates are headed up and BOA , as well as others stand to make a larger profit by holding off offers now on repossesed homes. This after they have taken taxpayer bailouts to help them do this to the possible homeowners, It is very sad, that a company, any company operates without the simple consideration for their customers. Of course unless your a large corporation yourself, than by all means go to BOA. They love you, almost as much as theirselves.

Wells Fargo is satin incarnate! I cannot believe that they did not make the list. I could afford my home 4 years ago but in December of 2009 I was laid off from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida (another snake that needs its head removed) and now my husband and I cannot afford our mortgage and what does Wells Fargo say, you dont qualify for the HOME AFFORDABLE Program because you don't make enough money now. What???? I challenge Wells Fargo to try to sell this house if they do foreclose, I paid 325,000.00 it's only worth 189,000.00 now, why the hell am I even trying to keep the house? It's not worth anything! Why pass a law telling the lenders that they must modify the loans when there is no one there to enforce the law. My son is getting ready to join the Army to fight for a country that couldn't care less about it's citizens. It just doesn't seem right to me.

Posted April 19, 2010 by Tracey

The list does not surprise me. I just commented to my husband this evening that a question asked to a famous 1930's bank robber was Why he robbed banks? And the answer was because that is where the money was. His rational was correct with one fatal flaw. He knew where the money was ; he just should have worked for the bank instead of robbing it.

We used to have a good natured rivalry between our two parties in our democratic system. Since Rush Limbaugh and Fox News have been sniping away 24/7 we are close to another Civil War. Such hatred between Americans tday exceeds that of the other Civil War. They create a smoke screen to hide the true enemies of American, which are the multi-national corporations that have been on the March against democracy since the Iron Curtain fell and they no longer fear communism. They have long tolerated labor unions as an alternative to Communism, but no more. We will soon be back to six-day weeks with two classes only--the workig poor and the very rich. Rush Limbaugh and the guys at Fox are Judas goats leading Americans to vote against our own best wishes. Big Government does not exist because government is owned by corporations.

Don't forget about Comcast. I have never had a more worthless cable/internet company. That's right, inflate prices on all your mediocre services, because you are the only company in the market. I wish the government would allow me to run a monopoly legally.

Ya these companys screwed up, but the one's we need to deal with are Obama and his socialist ideas, The FDA, the perscription drug companies, the chemical and food companies, these are the people really doing us harm. BUT, before we can change all that, WE must change,we must wake up and deal with reality on an honest level. only then can we all work together toward the ideals this country was founded on. Government is for protection only. Lets shut the rest down. Be honest with ourselves and others. Then we can rally.

Let me just said a couple of things, first of all we all need the auto companies. If they don't survive the country loses. Second, GM has paid back most of the bail out monies they received and plan on paying back the rest for June 1 and Thrid to all the people who buy what Japan sells, the monies goes back to Japan and the United States looses, so when you buy the Japan models you are hurting your self. I don''t feel sorry for you when have problems with your vehicles

Bank of America has also put strickter on larger business' as most people forget to mention in this arctical. I look at this way Bank of America has done a lot to try to keep this economy afloat and also help it bounce back. I live in Salem, Or and they have helped smaller business stay on their feet and help start new businesses. In fact BOA has done a lot for this economy behind the scenes that most companies do not even look at trying to get this economy a jump start. I say this about some of these banks are causing problems, but Bank of America has stepped up to the plate and decieded that there is more out there to help people more, The strickter guide lines for the credit cards are also coming from the MBNA practice that caused most of the problems that Bank of America. So we need to do more investigating on the information that is provided. There is a lot more of information that most reporting agencies leave out about companies like this and many more about the banks and soforth.

I agree with the rankings except that Bank of America should be ranked somewhere in the top 4 worst. I know employees who had been with the Bank for years, did a great job and were let go when the bank purchased M Lynch. I think they should have let the M Lynch employees go as they were going to declare bankruptcy. I don't understand why anyone would want to put their money with M. We then had to find a new buyer and found one, but have been on "hold" for 5 months longer while they change programs and everything else! I love their cars and I love the UNION WORKERS. The Unions created our middle class and if you don't know that you need to study history. Just like the Tea Party Group that pretend like they care about people. Anyone that has ever went to church or knows anything at all about the Bible knows that God loves all his children ant teaches us to help people in need. Does the Tea Party Group think that they will go anyplace but hell preaching hate and spreading lies. I would like to find out more info on the Jp Morgan Chase Federal case or how to contact the lawyers involved. My wife and I have experienced the same situation but are still pending in the modification process, although Chase has started foreclosure it is supposed to be on delay

Bank of America Should have been #1.The make home affordable plan is a joke.Tried several times without any success to talk with someone that could help.I was placed on hold and never got to speak to Human. I was under the impression that this is what some of the bailout money was for.

My wife and I are currently dissabled after working 35 yrs and paying on our home for 19 yrs. Bank of America has ruined my credit and is threatening to take my home. They clam and have reported to the credit bureau that we have not made a payment since jan. of 09, and we have been making our payments all along and I can prove it. I ask you, have you ever heard of a bank letting you go more than a year and not foreclose? even a lawyer can't get a straight answer about all the payment checks they have cashed, or the stament ,for taxes, of interest ($3000 ) paid last year. How could I pay this interest if I am NOT making my payments?NO ONE knows They call me daily starting at 8: 05 am even saturday and sunday. After talking to someone for hours, two hours, later someone else calls and has no clue we just talked to a "SUPERVISER" or what was said. Don't they have better computers than I do? No network? What is their problem? Needless to say my opinion of B-O-A is not fit for print so I won't.

Hate is a strong word and out of place here. Rather than hating these companies; how about disliking management that put these companies in such a mess. Why blame the entire company? I am sure those who said they hated these companies would like a second chance if they ever faulter. I am routing for our auto companies and hope they become #1 again.

Chase Manhattan Bank definitely deserves its place on this list. I've been avoiding any and all financial products that have the slightest relationship with Chase for many years. I once paid off an $800 balance on a Chase "Circuit City" card (what good company they keep), only to have a service charge of $5 appear three weeks later and result in late fees and negative credit reporting. It's hard to think well of any company with a business model based on shoving ordinary people down in the mud.

Companies? What about the BIG GOVERNMENT of these United States. They don't even work for their money they just take it from all of us including the so called "Hated Companies." When will people WAKE UP and see the truth.

Why don't the Tea Party people hate these companies the way they hate the United States government?

Your assesment of what happened at Chrysler is all askew! First, it was not a happy merger with Mercedes. It was an almost hostile takeover. Chrysler had been doing very well before the merger, so a large stockholder decided to take advantage of his profit. It just so happed MB was there and took his stock before Chrysler could react. MB proceeded to 'gut' Chrysler of all its successful concept cars, and let some of their best designers get away. Most Americans don't like one of our own being owned by a foreign company and, that was not in Chryslers' favor. They obviously didn't manage Chrysler well with their foreign ideas of how to treat workers, and dealers, so, when they took all the cash they could, leaving Chrysler a shell, they dumped it. Then the current group decided to buy Chrysler with no automobile experience at all! And you expect Chrysler could rebound from that??? They both handicapped the core of Chryslers' ingenuity and abilities to succeed, and then you, stupidly, print your wrong opinions. How does that help one of our nations' largest employers to rebound? You need to do better research before you print such errors which continue to hurt our companies and their employees!!! Wake up! I must be an odd American. I can't stand a government who always demonizes these corporations. The Government is the real problem. The government / news media has impacted the Americans attitude towards these corporations.
