McDonald's giveth and McDonald's taketh away. The fast-food franchise distributed 32 million free coupons that offered customers a sample of its new Real Fruit Smoothies this weekend.

By now, everyone knows Micky D's decided it didn't have enough supplies to fulfill the free coupon offer. Goodbye free coupons.

All I can say is: Thanks for ruining my weekend, McDonald's! I was actually planning my first visit since 1991, when I ventured beneath the Golden Arches to sample your short-lived seaweed hamburger.

The new fruit smoothies are part of Micky D's continuing attempt to siphon some money away from Starbucks, Dairy Queen and other liquid competitors with their McCafe drink line.

Fortunately, summer sippers have alternatives:
