24 Secret Restaurant Menus Revealed

March 3, 2010 - Posted to In-Store Shopping, Trends.

Mention "secret menus" and many people think of hidden functions on Blackberries or Xbox games. Actually, secret menus refers to items you can special order at restaurants that aren't mentioned on standard menus.

Some places, like Chipotle Mexican Grills, have a whole secret menu that's limited only by your imagination. On the other hand, In-N-Out Burger's secret menu" is so unsecret it's posted on their Web site. Kind of takes the cool factor out of having the inside scoop, doesn't it?

If you're looking to impress a date or just like that feeling of "knowing the chef," here are 24 restaurants that offer secret menus. Remember, not all may participate in the hidden menu. However, if you try to order something and the server looks at you with a blank look, don't give up. Describe the dish and usually they'll make it for you anyway.

Just keep it under your hat.

I find it offensive that people on here believe that EVERYONE who works at a fast food place is stupid and fat. Im 19 and i work at dairy queen but that doesnt makr me dumb. Sorry to inform spme people on here that that in order to get a high paying job most need a college education. College isnt free or near it at all so if you think youre going to be making six figures right out of high school think again. Im currently in college double majoring in psychology and NUTRITION. And to inform those who believe that everyone who eats fast food is fat i eat dairy queen every time i work when i go on break and im no where near being overweight. Its called eating salads and wraps instead of thick burgers and french fries. Most fast fiod restaurants serve healthier choices. Dont blame the fast food companies that you chose french fries over apple slices or a milkshake over a bottle of water.its not that difficult people.

This list is really hurting. I mean, poutine at A&W? It's on our signs....

Posted May 16, 2013 by Adam

Most of these are just creations others have made and now are sharing. I like to get a spicy mcchicken at McDonalds, hold the mayo, add mustard, big mac sauce, heavy pickles, extra lettuce, red onion and toast the bun longer. It's only 1.15 since they charge you for big mac sauce, and very filling.

Posted May 4, 2013 by Mamakass

The McDonalds Secret Menu is MUCH bigger than that. Also, from the wendy's menu, the Triple Bypass is missing. It's a triple Baconator, with lettuce, tomato, pickles, unions, and Mayo.

My family calls the mcgangbang a mcdicken!

Posted April 14, 2013 by Amber

Thanks! Great for Weight Watchers!

Posted April 6, 2013 by dee

An addition to the Taco Bell secret menu. I've become accustomed to ordering a (for some reason secret) Cheesy Gordita Crunch WITH a Dorito Loco Taco shell instead of a regular hard taco shell.

Posted March 23, 2013 by Alan

Around here we call the mcgangbang a heart attack. I knew about the Starbucks captain crunch. And mcd's has always had a sausage gravy biscuit. Arbys has no cheese fries, I worked there. But try the red ranch on the jalapeno poppers. At my local tb, they always have the Verde sauce. At bk you have to be careful, they have a veggie burger that is a patty and the also have a veggie whopper, which is a whopper without the meat patty, so be careful which one you order. I'm going to have to try the mc10:35 as soon as possible.

Posted March 21, 2013 by jmpslp

Taco Bell also still has the Tostada on the order list. This is round crunchy taco base with beans, tomoato, lettuce, sauce on top ~ $1.10

Posted March 15, 2013 by Larry

I actually had a Starbucks employee invent this that the barista will totally do if asked. I don't have a name for it, but it's amazing. Order a venti Strawberries and Cream Frappuccino with an oatmeal cookie blended into it. I thought it sounded so weird, but it is amazing delicious. Try it!

Posted March 4, 2013 by B. Scott

Del Taco offers an off menu item called the bun taco. It's a hamburger made with a scoop of taco meat instead of a patty, and very tasty. Don't know why they don't put it on the menu.

Posted February 27, 2013 by Kevin

Little Caesars also has a Hot and Ready pizza with garlic butter and parm cheese all over. It's called a heart attack.

Posted February 27, 2013 by brandi

I have never heard of most of these 'secret menu items' except for the McGangbang. From where I come from its called the McJohnson; and there is only one McDonald's in the area that all the employees know what it consists of and they will charge you for each sandwich individually and tell you how to assemble it.

Posted February 10, 2013 by Rogven

At Sonic you can order a "suicide slush" its a slush with all the flavors mixed in.

Posted February 7, 2013 by Kris

Love these tips, cool site.

Posted February 4, 2013 by Lisa Harms

My mom worked at BK from around 1990-2012....I worked there from 1998-2001.....for secret menu items here goes.......the "mustard whopper" is just a whopper no mayo add mustard......seriously....as for rodeo burger, chicken club, and veggie whopper these items were all onthe menu for a long time except a veggie was just whopper no meat......most dumas that make minimum wage at BK will not know what "frings" are...you have to say half fries half rings and you will get charged for onion rings which cost more........if you order a blt be prepared to pay for a whopper plus bacon....but if you want to challenge a BK employee ask for a chicken tender sandwich......it is 3 chicken tenders, mayo, lettuce, tomato on a small bun.....usually you can get away with paying for a hamburger....put some bbq sauce on it......btw this was also on the menu 10 years ago......but most people that work at any bk wont know what it is unless they have made a career there.....and since bk is a franchise...the managers there need to kiss alot of ass to keep their shitty job and will try to charge you the max on everything.....P.S. what kind of douche named the Mcgangbang....obviously its not a secret menu item but something some dick made up to sound like a badass when he prolly hasn't worked his way up from the fry station yet....

Posted January 30, 2013 by Wanda

This list (especially for McDonald's) is sorely inaccurate so let me bring you up to speed as I worked there for 2 1/2 years These are responses I expect for the alleged "secret menu items" Biscuits and Gravy - probably only available in the South, does NOT make it a "secret menu item" McKinley Mac - *blank stare* Grilled Cheese - never asked for, wonder if we would make it though Big Mac with Quarter Pounder Patties - sounds like the bogus "McKinley Mac" you referred to and let me clue you in on the Big Mac: it's made with "reg meat" that's 1/10 pound meat. 1/4 pound meat is clearly larger, more expensive, and higher in calories. Only an idiot would think otherwise. All American - *blank stare* Big McChicken - *blank stare* Fries with Big Mac Sauce - will cost you 30 cents extra if rung in properly, may or may not spread sauce directly on fries (at my location we fill a 4-piece box with Mac sauce) Chicken and Waffles - never did breakfast but I suppose it's possible Neopolitan Milk Shake - can make but may not be blended very well McLeprichon - i can get mint from that request, chocolate is not assumed Pie McFlurry - obviously two separate items, but it may be difficult to mix into the mcflurry itself McGangBang - a lot of drunk people ask for this, we're not allowed to actually make it for them, but give them a McDouble and McChicken. LSA Burger - *blank stare for a second but understands the request* it will cost you extra for the additional meat though Root Beer Float - do we serve Root Beer? Perhaps at some locations, but we don't serve Chocolate ice cream Coke Float - same Monster Mac - *stares* how many burgers? what size burgers? I think most workers will get that it's a larger Big Mac but the amount of burgers is not assumed 2 Cheese Burger Meal Mac - remove the word "Mac" as it means nothing in this menu item, which by the way, is just a #4.

Posted January 16, 2013 by McDonalds State College

Cool. That shit looks sooooooooooooo good! Thanks for telling me about it.

Posted December 26, 2012 by josiah

This is a terrible list. Most of these are not hidden menu items. I worked at Arby's, The french dip is on the menu. There is no such thing as "wet fries" it's not a menu item. You want fries with cheese sauce, you get fries, with a cup of hot cheese sauce to dip in. And most of these other ones aren't menu items, they are just items someone has special ordered, or order separate items and put them together on their own. Shame on the writer of this article. These are lies. A secret menu item isn't something you special ordered. Example would be the pie flurry. This is not a secret menu item. This is two items that were rung up separately as a pie and a mcflurry, and then combined at the request of the customer. This is a special order item, I guess if you really wanted to categorize it, it could be a "menu hack". I secret menu item is one that you order by a single name, is rung up on the register without having to push extra buttons and combining preexisting item. The arby's super would be an example of a secret menu item. It's it's own item, you don't order a roast beef sandwich with lettuce and tomato. You order super, they push the button on the register that says "super" and they make it.

I had no idea, ha ha But now I do ha ha

Posted December 6, 2012 by Theresa NewTon

asked for a mcgangbang a while ago. It's delicious!

Posted November 30, 2012 by ambuh

So do these work only in the US, or are they also applicable to the UK?

Posted November 29, 2012 by Edderiofer

A lot of those secret options look really yummy, but if someone came into McDonald's and ordered a Mckinley Mac when I worked there, I would have had no idea what they were talking about or how to enter it into the system. They would have had to spell out exactly what they wanted so I could subtract the regular patties and add quarter pounder patties. But yeah, they could have done that. I wouldn't have regarded it as a big secret, since lots of restaurants do substitutions. But secret menu items were not something new employees got trained on. OK, so that's just McDonald's. But I would say it's probably best to cut employees some slack if you go into Jamba and order a Raspberry Dreamin', and they tell you they don't have that. It might be so secret that the bottom-rung employees don't know about it either.

Most of the Dairy Queen items aren't secret menu items. The Jack and Jill and the blue one are secret menu items.

Posted October 21, 2012 by unkn9wn

Arby's will still serve the "Super" which is roast beef, tomato and salad dressing on a bun even though it is no longer on the menu.

Posted October 13, 2012 by Kathi Hagge

Very cool, I don't know what to try first, some of them look like a heart attack between buns though.

Posted October 8, 2012 by Casey

Don't forget the Chicken Cordon Bleu from Subway! Grilled chicken strips, black forest ham, american cheese and honey mustard sauce.

Posted September 25, 2012 by Akumaka

I work at Little Caesars and what they say is true. Also for no charge we can butter/parm the crust of any pizza. We also have a heart attack which is an Italian cheese bread with all the meats on it. Sooooo good.

Posted September 17, 2012 by Dan

Who does this kind of stuff? It all sounds so gross and who has the mouth for all this stuff? I mean I don't and don't think I will ever order any of this stuff and for the one thing McDonalds does not even sell rootbeer.

Posted September 12, 2012 by Jill

This is a bunch of lies.

Posted September 12, 2012 by Bill

For all you In N Out lovers out there, I advise you please read if you have any misconceptions of what the REAL secret menu is. First off, we do NOT make anything bigger then a 4x4 anymore; a Veggie Burger is simply called a Veggie Burger and YOU should be aware that ALL of our burgers consist of SPREAD, LETTUCE, TOMATO and your choice of REGULAR onions. Therefore, meaning if you want GRILLED onions you must ask for it. Aside from Animal Style none of our burgers will automatically come with grilled onions. Further, Fry Lights are not oily as we must and should shake the basket thoroughly, so if your or anyone else's has come oily be it as regular fries as well I apologize. Our fries cook at approx. a little over 5 minutes, so a fry light will be pulled at around THREE minutes. 2ndly you mentioned on one for the burgers that it will come with lettuce and tomato. Please remember SPREAD, LETTUCE, TOMATO and/or your choice of REG. onions is what ALL burgers will ALWAYS consist of unless said otherwise by you guys :) . Lastly, animal fries come with TWO SLICES of cheese, not "layered" (so if youre picturing some type of nacho cheese, im sorry but its not) ,grilled onions and spread ONLY. There are no pickles on these I am sorry. & on that note, ONLY animal style on a burger will come with pickles. Pickle Lovers, woop woop, must request for pickles on or on side of burgers. I think I have cleared and corrected everything up. Happy eatings and thank you for eating at In N Out where quality is important, but you guests are even more important :) !!

Order The Hulk at Taco Bell. Its an XL chalupa smothered with guacamole. Really good. Try it!

You're missing a lot.

Posted September 1, 2012 by bill

Many people get really freakin pissy if you ask for stuff like this.

Posted August 25, 2012 by Jonathan

You left out one from Chick fil'A. They have a killer breakfast platter that is not on the Menu on Drive Thru, sometimes it's on a small corner of Dine in menu. Most people have never heard of it. I believe it's $3.99 It's a piece of chicken, scrambled eggs, biscuit and gravy. It's awesome. Try it.

Peanut Buster Parfait is on the menu at DQ.

Posted July 7, 2012 by Andrew

This is crap. Half of these aren't even hidden menu items and this isn't even a complete list. I work at Jamba and there are like 30 or 40 more items on it.

Posted July 3, 2012 by Cody

This is very interesting! The names are funny and very yummy.

Posted July 2, 2012 by Grace

The rodeo burger has been on BK's actual menu for years, and the suicide burger is now on it as the "quad stack"

Posted June 13, 2012 by cha0s

Thanks Lynn, your outlook on customer service assures me I never need to go to a Starbucks again.

Posted June 5, 2012 by Greg

Don't go to Starbucks and use any of these names, most of the time it just makes people mad. Starbucks makes all these drinks they are not a "secret" they all have real names !!! And maybe if you are a nice person and aren't trying to show off with some fancy name we will tell you how to order te drink you would like with the right name so that way you don't sound like an ass when you order a stupid captain crunch frappuccino! Most places don't like those names because when we train new people we are going to teach them the right way and people who come in and order a zebra mocha we just wish you would order it right. A good thing to remember ll these places are food and you don't want to make the person making your food/drinking mad.

Posted June 4, 2012 by Lynn

Um. These are not restaurants. They're fast food joints.

Posted June 3, 2012 by mcl

They also have green gummy bear at Jamba Juice.

Posted May 30, 2012 by jane

Super Roast Beef from Arbys. Excellent sandwich but it dissapeared from the menu, however they still make it if requested.

Posted May 28, 2012 by Ben

Yeah, some of these are simply regular menu items around here or discontinued menu items that places will often still serve if you ask nicely and they have the ingredients on hand. Ok must stop reading, this is making me crave something greasy and yummy.

Posted May 25, 2012 by Jesse

I asked for a McLeprichon when they were selling it and they said they can't make them for us :( one marked down :(

Posted May 14, 2012 by JK3R

I was told by a former employee that Wendy's has a button on their register for a veggie sandwich. Every time I tried to order it I caused a lot of confusion. I've since learned to just order the junior cheeseburger without the patty, it's the same thing.

I love that Dairy Queen has a completely different menu in Texas than it does in the rest of the country. If I go to DQ out of state, I get really strange looks if I forget and order a steak finger basket or a hunger buster, let alone a Bacon Jalepeno burger, all of which are menu items here. There's nothing better than steak fingers with a side of nacho cheese from DQ.

Cool site. I'm gonna try and order something cool at my local restaurant.

In-N-Outs menu isn't really a secret, they just chose to keep it as it originally started. The 100 X 100 is no longer available.

The McDonalds so called "McGangbang" should be called a "McDicken". McGangbang doesn't even make sense.

I wish that Carl's Jr. would bring back the California Roast Beef sandwich. They were the best!

All of the items on the secret menus sound very tasty. I'm gonna try at least one of them from all of the restaurants. I didn't know these things were being sold.

At Taco Bell, you may still order the fiesta potatoes (potatoes with sour cream and chives on top) although they took them off the menu. Don't know why!

Posted May 1, 2012 by Vivian Wyatt

Other Potbelly secret items.... BLT: 9 Pieces of bacon with lettuce and tomato. Grilled cheese: A vegetarian without mushrooms and only American cheese. Barnyard: A wreck with bacon and meatballs.

You have a root beer float listed for McDonald's, but McDonald's does not carry any root beer.

I'm a proud DQ worker and like someone before me said, we'll make anything you ask for, even the old Dixie Bell Sundaes. Substituting ingredients in blizzard is no extra charge if its a sub, but if you want to add extra stuff it gets pretty expensive. If we can fit it in the dish, we are happy to make it :)

Posted April 11, 2012 by DairyDoodle

Some of these secret menu items are not so secret (ie., written directly on the menu) in Canada, for example the Arby's Chicken Cordon Bleu and the Beef Dip, as well as poutine at A&W/KFC.

Posted April 6, 2012 by Sarah

I work at chick-fil-a and really we have a larger "secret menu" than mentioned. I wouldn't call it secret though. Whatever you want we can make it. For example, we have a lady who always comes in and orders a salad and then she orders 3 slices of american cheese. Another example, we can grill the spicy. I always get this on my break because its just as good as the original spicy but healthier. This takes about ten minutes to do though and we will probably talked bad about you if you ask for this during peak hours. Really we can make whatever you want. You want 5 extra slices of cheese? we can do that. we can switch meat and buns on any sandwich

Posted April 3, 2012 by Paige

The author seems to be experiencing some confusion about Big Macs: "Big Mac with Quarter Pounder Patties - This is great if you are looking to decrease the cost and calories of the classic Big Mac Sandwich. You get the entire flavor with less meat." ...no. That would a Big Mac with MORE meat and MORE calories that costs MORE money.

Posted April 3, 2012 by infinity

I work at Taco Bell and the Cheesy Gordita Crunch is actually on the enu and is a part of the new combo 10. Before it was used for the $5 box a lot and still is. The double grilled quesadilla isn't really would menu item, it simply is a quesadilla and you can asked for it "extra grilled." Our Taco Bell nor any of the ones we own have green sauce although it's on the cash register. Some Taco Bells may have it exspecially coorperate stores but it's not required by the company to have it. The Verde sauce is actually the Green sauce but it's not served hot but at room temperature. The chili cheese burrito is on the "secret menu" but you have to be careful because some Taco Bells don't serve chili, exspecially Taco Bell/KFC combined restaurants. Hope this helps and thank you for choosing Taco Bell!

Haha I don't know why Subway keeps the Pizza one off the menu they keep the Meatball one on and that one has crazy calories T T they just be hating on pizza.

Posted March 26, 2012 by Kate

Alright.. Where to start? Let's just say that this was a joy to read. Reading about all the other things that could be available at all these well know Fast Food Restaurants was creative. I liked reading about how people have experimented and actually named some of the creations made. I also loved reading the experiences some workers and costumers have gone through. But, it really does sadden me thought to see people complaining about how, "That doesn't exist", or "How could you eat that crap??" I would like to say that the author of this probably made this for entertainment purposes only and just complied a list of combinations that can be made at these places, with fancy names with them to boot. I also don't see the purpose of people saying that we have no lives and should be out there cooking our own food or exercising. I would like to point out first that you found this first of all (which, obviously, is a waste of your time) but to have the audacity to post a comment on here saying we are wasting our time while you have so many other things to do with your time. (Which shows me that you probably don't when you take the time out of your busy day to insult random people about their lifestyles) And on a side note, there are obviously different menu items available depending on where you live and what time of year it is. In all, I would like to say thank you to the author and all those positive commenters out there, because you made this little find on the internet more enjoyable. Thank you!

Posted March 26, 2012 by Jackie

@Dairy Queen - they will pretty much make whatever you request, so long as they have the ingredients. My favorite is a cherry cheesecake blizzard.

Posted March 26, 2012 by Disaster Chan

Please add The Feast to the Subway section. It is all of the regularly stocked cold meats at Subway (pepperoni, salami, ham, turkey, and roast beef) for the same price as the Big Philly. Many customers who get this also pay a little extra to add bacon. It was on the menu about two years ago, but was removed soon after the pizza sub- probably for similar reasons.

Posted March 26, 2012 by Kat

I work at McDonalds and we don't do any of that or even close. but you can order extra stuff on your sandwich.

Posted March 25, 2012 by J.J.

just for the record i work at chickfila and a club sandwich fried is just a number 2 or delux with provolone cheese and bacon... with or w/o a wheat bun.

Posted March 25, 2012 by Hannah

Almost forgot. The real secret menu items: 1) ask for a peanut butter jelly sandwich blizzard [pie pieces, raspberry topping, and peanut butter] 2)the bomb arctic rush, not on the menu, but it is on the registers, every flavor combined into one. super delicious! Also we have what's called a freeze where we take half arctic rush or fountain drink (usually rootbeer, though you can do anything) and half ice cream and blend it together. Those are really good! they are on the menu but hardly any one gets them...

Posted March 25, 2012 by Mr. Man

I work at dairy queen and the chocolate chip blizzard, banana split blizzard, and peanut buster parfait are all on the menu... As in available for the customers to see, I'm also pretty sure that the frozen hot chocolate is on the menu... but I'm not positive. It's in the registers though. However I haven't even heard about those two sundays...

Posted March 25, 2012 by Mr. Man

The regular Peanut Buster Parfait is not on a secret menu, but you can request that the fudge is replaced with either butterscotch or caramel. I much prefer the caramel over the fudge. I've also been told that you can bring in any candy or cookie to be made into a blizzard. Also, at Taco Bell, you can still order the border bowls, even if they aren't on the menu, as they are not at all locations. Also, for those who wish it, BK, DQ, and McDonalds will put fries on your burger if you ask, and Subway will put chips on your sandwich if you ask.

Posted March 25, 2012 by Thomas

starbucks also a non menu item called a white its mixed by */* (shots of espresso/pumps of white mocha) I usually mix it with a 2:1 ratio.

Posted March 25, 2012 by Josh

Love your post but you are forgetting MANY things on the Chili's Menu. The Chicken Fried Chicken, The Quesadillas (Old School) The Macho Nacho Burger, and MANY MANY more which can still be made (and many people still order). The chili has been on the menu for a while now (not the case for the past 4 or 5 years). P.S. they are trying out a new Chili which is AMAZINGLY good!

Posted March 15, 2012 by G Man

I have had the McKiley and it is the best. It is even better than the Shamrock Shake by like x2.

Posted March 11, 2012 by Jonathan

Starbucks isn't allowed to do the biscotti frap anymore because it ruins our blenders. Also, many In-n-outs don't do larger than 4x4's anymore.

Posted March 10, 2012 by Monica

Wow, brilliant compilation! I was kinda disappointed in Taco Bell's secret menu and a couple of the secret things elsewhere are no longer secret, but I'm definitely ordering a Monster Mac or Suicide burger if I ever go to McDonald's or Burger King.

Ryan, The McGangBang is a local favorite of ours... Step 1: Order a McDouble and a McChicken Step 2: Separate the McDouble into two parts (pull apart so that you have 1 meat patty on each side) Step 3: Place the McChicken atop of one of the pieces of McDouble then put the the other piece on that) Step 4: There you have it. Enjoy!

Posted January 23, 2012 by Bytor

You can order a Ninja Turtle at Taco Bell, it's a half and half mix of baha mt dew and reg mt dew. If done correctly it will have a prominent green color hence the name. It's best if you make it yourself and go back and forth between the two to create an even mix.

I was at Taco Bell the other day and asked for extra cheese on my burrito. They put their Nacho Cheese sauce on it and it was DELICIOUS! Needless to say, from now on I'm getting a bean burrito with nacho cheese sauce next time I'm at Taco Bell. :) (Another hidden menu item for those who may be interested)

As someone pointed out -- just because it's not at YOUR store doesn't mean it isn't at another. One McD's has bagel breakfast sandwiches and I went to the the one on the other side of town and they didn't. Maybe some Starbucks employees brought in their own blenders to make the dish with cookies or whatever because of a bigger demand. Think before you open your mouths people. Thank you for the "secret" menu's. All you can do is try. The least they'll say is no.

Taco Bell in Minnesota still has the Chili Cheese Burrito (the only reason I go there). They started out as a menu item at Zantigo, called the "Chilito." TB bought up Zantigo, then changed the name, probably because it wasn't descriptive enough.

Posted November 16, 2011 by Bucky

Peanut Buster Parfait isn't on any SECRET menu. It's on the main menu. It's right there next to Blizzards.

Posted November 15, 2011 by Courtney

I have been getting chili cheese burritos for years. They are sick and wrong, but I love them. They used to be on the regular menu at Taco Bell but I went in one day and noticed they were gone. "Oh, you don't have the chili cheese burritos anymore?" the manager winked and said, "We can still make you one." My love affair with the nastiest burrito was born.

I'm a Starbucks barista, and yes, as already stated, we are not allowed to put biscotti in the blenders; not cookies, either, nor brownies. You may get the occasional barista who might break policy and cut them up before putting them in there, but if the blender breaks it's on their neck. And -- heads up -- if you order French press coffee custom brewed, you will likely be cussed out behind your back, especially if it's during peak hours. This is because our counters are designed to have people set up for each task to keep drinks moving smoothly, and your order messes up the entire flow of the floor, since it needs to be ground, brewed specially. More often than not, the rest of that one-pound bag of coffee ends up wasted since we're only supposed to brew a pre-determined sort of coffee each day in the store. During blackout hours this is a disaster. BUT, if you order your favorite brew custom done in the evening, when it's a bit slower, most baristas won't have a problem with it. I just know most will try to talk you out of it at any cost, if you insist in the middle of the morning rush. My branch had a customer who would come in every morning in the middle of rush hour and order a specific brew of coffee in her tall Coffee Misto, and watch us brew it. If it sat in the press for even ten seconds longer than four minutes, she would demand it redone. Needless to say, she definitely didn't get a customer appreciation card at the end of the year! My personal favorite "secret" drink is the "Cheggnog", a Chai tea latte made with steamed eggnog instead of milk. Not sure how secret it is, but it's heavenly amounts of good! The Cheggnog is only available around Christmas, though, because that's the only time that our stores stock eggnog.

Listen you people that say you work in these fast-food places; all fast-food places may have these on their normal menus because they will put whatever foods attract customers in different areas of the world. You say, "Oh no, they don't have that stuff there, but I know for a fact they have half this stuff everywhere else in the world. For example, Japan has a MegaMac. It's two or three Big Macs on top of each other. There are different foods everywhere. Just because you work at one in your fast food place doesnt mean other places will sell these things. Go back to high school and take geography. There is so much more I could say, but it's not worth it.

Posted November 10, 2011 by brent

I work at McDonalds and I can tell you right now that if you go up to a McD's employee and order almost any of that they will just look at you funny and think you're a dummy. Most extras are free as far as sauce and toppings but meat costs to add and so does a bun. Further clarification on the mcgangbang, I've heard a thousand names for this sandwich but where I live most people call it the McBitchin. At most fast food restaurants you can just custom order whatever you want. Tell us what you want on it and we'll put it on. And no we will not make you a root beer float. You can get a root beer and buy the ice cream and do it yourself if your heart desires.

I love the Starbucks group of secret items, especially since they're used to getting creative orders. However, the other ones I would be hesitant to order because I'd be nervous the person at the counter would have no idea what I was talking about.

Posted October 31, 2011 by Ellen Fleming

I have a good one for everyone from McDonald's: The Mini-Mac. It's a McDouble with Mac sauce, instead of ketchup and mustard, and it provides Big Mac flavor for $1.

Actually, Little Caesars Stuffed Crust Pizza came out years before Pizza Hut introduced theirs. It's also not a secret at all. You may want to change that.

I'm not sure the Subway "secret" menu really qualifies. They will actually make you anything you want with what they have on hand. My local Subway even humors me when I ask for tomato on the meat with cheese and have the whole thing toasted. Throw on bell peppers, onion, and olives and you got a kick butt hot Italian BMT. Be creative, I say. They build it to order.

I've got to say I had more fun reading your comments than the actual list in the article. As I read, there were a lot of things I wanted to say, but it simply won't all fit in this box. So, here is my contribution to the thread. Thank you to all of the workers at various restaurants who have shared your personal experiences. Those who took the time to insult others based upon their education, income, eating habits or body size - I would love to hear why you believe that one human life has more value than another because of these things. Thank you to those who have supplied personal experiences from the customer's point of view, too. If anything, reading this has been less a revelation about food and more of a revelation about humanity, and the cruelty and hatefulness that people have for one another.

As a Barista employed by Starbucks, I can tell you the following: 1. Biscotti Frappuccino: We are not permitted to blend anything other than our syrups, coffee, bases, or espresso into our frappuccinos. Sorry kids. No biscotti frappucinos unless someone is breaking the rules. 2. Cake Batter Frappuccino: Starbucks no longer carries almond syrup. This beverage is now impossible to craft in store. At home "baristas" only. You can buy (very expensively) frappuccino base on EBay. Or play around with Xantham gum if you're feeling scientific. 3. Crunchberry Frappuccino: Uses Toffee Nut syrup, not hazelnut. There's a big difference in flavor. 4. London Fog: Is an Earl Gray Tea Latte with vanilla syrup. The latte part is crucial. No milk - no fog. If someone else covered these points already, my apologies. I make it a point not to read other's comments.

I work at dairy Queen, and as far as I know, Peanut buster parfaits are not discontinued, and are by no means a secret. As for blizzards, we can make any flavor you want using ingredients we have instore. It's not like the blizzard nazis are going to come down and force us not to modify the blizzard to customer specs. It simply costs extra. You can also put cone dip in anything you want. At my store, its 40 cents extra. Also, on a side note, I do not recommend the banana split blizzard. It is watery and really gross. Happy eating everyone!

The Enchirito at Taco Bell used to be on the menu back in the 70s and early 80s, at least it was here in Northern California. It also used to be topped with 3 sliced olives. I still love ordering them, but there are times when the person taking my order is lame and looks at me funny. They usually have to check with their manager who almost always knows what I'm talking about. =)

I think it's safe to say that many of the things on this menu are regional. Having worked at both a Subway and a Starbucks, I know that we don't offer the pizza sub, but aren't going to turn away business, and will put a banana in a frappuccino if asked, respectively.

Posted July 21, 2011 by Tony

I work at McDonald's and have never heard of most of those menu items, but we will make pretty much anything a customer requests. We have Shamrock shakes year-round at my store (so that's kind of a secret menu item outside of March) and we will still make a Big and Tasty even though it's not on the menu anymore. And the two cheeseburger meal you mention is a number four :)

McDP - 2 Burgers with phallic shaped buns and patties. Must take both burgers at same time. In-N-Out Doggie Style Burger - meat inserted into a sideways bun. Then the meat is taken out, mayo is spread everywhere, and then the meat is re-inserted into the bun. Repeat as desired. **To all fast-food workers on this site who are calling comments from others "stupid", "idiot", etc..... Re-evaluate your work situation and realize you are serving fast-food and working at a fast-food restaurant. Doesn't take a genius to do what you do nor does it take a genius to be an expert at your restaurant's secret menu. Maybe in the next life you can try a little harder in high-school.

Those who are raging--just chow-down on your gravy and chicken McGangBangs and get over it. And if you want to make such an issue out of it, put it up as a ballot measure in McInbred BumFushia! I on the other hand will be enjoying an Animal Style 4x4 without rage or controversy!!!...Oh, and I have no doubt that I could drop enough money to make most fastfood workers make anything I wanted, in order to be able to take a picture and post it as an "official" secret, by the way :)

Are there any hidden menu items that have human flesh?

Posted May 25, 2011 by Ron Cusano

I haven't read all the comments so someone may have already pointed this out but where I live (in southwest VA) Biscuits and Gravy are a regular item on the McDonald's menu, and any fast food menu around here for that matter, as are Peanut Buster Parfaits, Chicken cordon Bleu, BK Club, Side of Crumbs, Frito Pie, 2 Cheeseburger Meal, Cheesy Gordita Crunch, Green Sauce (its called Verde sauce), Enchirito, Grand Slam, Big Bacon Classic, Jr. Cheeseburger Deluxe. Also, when I worked at KFC about 4 years ago, we had no such thing as fried cheese curds, that is probably only in Canada or NW United States.

Posted May 21, 2011 by momo

I live in Canada and they do not fry cheese curds before the put them on poutine the put cold curds on hot fries then pour hot gravy on that which causes them to melt it's good if they use good gravy and not gravy that tastes like melted brown crayons

Okay, so the mcgangbang originated in my college's town and it is pretty good. Some McDonald's won't serve it if you order it that way because they say it is harassment. We usually have to order it as a McGB. As of last year, there is now a breakfast mcgangbang. It is delicious! Try it!

All of these options are called "secret menu" items because not all locations will have them, and they're not advertised - for a reason. Use common sense people.

The Cheesy Gordita Crunch is the only fast food item I will eat but I have a hell of a time finding it. Half the time when I order it the worker doesn't even know what it is since they haven't been working at Taco Bell for that long. I've tried to talk them into letting me just go back into the kitchen area and make it myself but for some strange reason they always refuse and say something about health regulations or some other ridiculousness. Come on. I'll wash my hands. I promise.

Just wanna confirm what another person said here: if you're vegetarian, Taco Bell will make any item on their menu with beans instead of meat - just ask. Everywhere I've been theyve been really nice about it, and everyone seems to know as well, so it must be a company policy. Pretty cool. Also, they will make just about any of the seasonal items for you, most of which are not on the menu. They release a new item like every week, so there's never enough room on the menus for everything they make, but they will still make it all even after it's off the menu.

Posted February 18, 2011 by fs

As we've already figured out, this list is stupid. Most restaurants will accommodate custom orders when possible. If you know they have fries, and cheese, and ask for cheese fries, that doesn't mean they have a "secret menu", it means you asked for it, they had the ingredients, so why not make an exception for you. Most places have individual charges built into their point of sale systems for items like cheese slices, tomato slices, bacon, extra patty, chicken patty, etc. It's not a secret, it's not planned, it's just common sense.

Posted February 14, 2011 by blah

Yeah, I live in Texas and no McDonalds around here have gravy. I have never seen gravy at any McDonalds in my life for that matter. As for the Mustard Whopper, is that really a secret item? That's just substituting Mustard for Mayo. I do that at any fast food restaurant that puts something other than mustard on their burgers. It's not like they keep their mustard a secret, they put it on lots of their burgers. I don't know about everywhere, but here in Texas these items are all on the menu and not "secret items." Taco Bell - Chili Cheese Burrito Arby's - Chicken Cordon Bleu - French Dip Dairy Queen - Peanut Buster Parfait I don't know about the rest, but those are things I know are on the menu at those places for sure.

I've worked at Starbucks for the last 4 years - no Cakebatter drink because there is no Almond syrup offered at any stores. London Fog is not a secret. Neither is the short size. The Crunchberry - more commonly referred to as the "Cap'n Crunch" - is actually made with a Strawberry Cream Frapuccino with toffee nut syrup added. No hazelnut. Check your facts.

Some of you are getting out of hand with the name calling, complaining about spelling and grammar, telling people they're stupid and getting an attitude. Some of this info may be wrong and some of it may be correct, but I don't feel the need to ream others out over it. Can't we all just enjoy sharing our own personal experiences and leave it at that?

They have biscuits and gravy at McDonald's clearly printed on the breakfast menu here in Tulsa at at least two locations. I do know of locations that don't state they have it... but do provide it when you ask. Frankly, I think it is the worst sausage gravy ever. I wouldn't be surprised if it came from a can.

Just in case no one else has posted this yet, the almond syrup was discontinued at Sbux a few years back. The Cake Batter Frap sounds tasty, but if you want it you'll have to improvise. Also, most people don't think about this, but most all drinks can be made without coffee. A pumpkin spice steamer (or cream) is a nice alternative for someone who doesn't like coffee, but doesn't want tea or hot chocolate.

One of my secrent menu favs at Taco Bell is surprisingly not on this website. It's the Pinto's and Cheese. It's a bowl of Taco Bell's refried beans toped with their red sauce and a bit of shreaded cheese, and fresco style you can get the cheese replaced for pico di gio. You can also get this with their rice aswell. It's yummy, only $.99, and it's pretty low cal/ low fat.

The Breakfast Pita Pocket was an off the menu item for awhile at Jack in the box. But at some places it was a pain getting people to do it. It was actually quite a bit cheaper as well. The downside to the off-menu and now official version of it is it's about 30% smaller than it was in the 90's in it's original incarnation (Scrambled egg pocket).

Pft, those of you blaming America for their size need to get outside and look at your country too. Or you haven't actually been to America. We've got quite a great deal of skinny people, and a lot of health nuts. Plus, you might want to look a bit north for the poutine source - Americans didn't come up with that, and it's hard as hell to find it here. Odds are, it won't be just right either. For whoever said that those of us who eat at such places aren't allowed to say "I can't lose weight, no matter what I do." Keep in mind, there are people who eat at such places maybe once every few months, eat quite healthfully otherwise, and are active most of the day, and still can't lose weight. Do not judge, you do not know the situation. Now, I'm off to find my local KFC/A

Posted October 17, 2010 by Vicestrike

Frito Pie isn't exactly a "secret" item at Sonic. It's right on our menu. "secret" items would be a philly cheesesteak (ask for a steak burrito, no egg, on a extra-long coney bun), or a hamburger salad. Or my personal favorite-a BCB toaster with chicken instead of cheeseburger. (The bbq sauce goes so damn good with our chicken-it's chicken, pickles, onions, lettuce tomato, cheese, bacon, an onion ring, stuck between two pieces of texas toast with bbq sauce) Or a root beer slush. If you know the employees, get them to get the syrup straight from the box, rather than the carbonated stuff out of the tap. Or grape slushes with mints thrown in. And if your employees are new/have managers that don't care, it's entirely possible to get a Rt. 44 sunrise-ask for a Rt. 44 cherry limeade, with just a little bit of OJ on top. (Technically, we're only supposed to do them in regular and large, like the shakes).

Posted October 15, 2010 by TheHedgehog

first of all, i am a burger king employee and let me tell you how very wrong you are about "secret menu". first of all, there is no such thing as a mustard whopper?. burger king gives you any item you want anyway you want it. second of all. a suicide burger is just a damn triple stacker with stacker sauce, four peices of bacon. and the only thing that we dont have on the menu that you so foolishly had wrong is the HAM AND CHEESE sandwich, even though it is not on the menu it is still requested and rung up on the registered as the HAM AND CHEESE! so yeah. learn your facts before writing anything you will truly look stupid about

Posted October 15, 2010 by bkworker

Its not an official item on the menu but some McDonalds will make a McGangBang if they know what it is. The only problem is you have to say "gangbang" to a stranger and be prepared for some blank stares

Posted October 12, 2010 by David

I read every one of these comments, the conclusion I've come to is it really depends on who you have working. If the manager is relaxed enough and your money is the right color you can probably get a Big Mac with french fries and sweet and sour sauce on it. Also, most workers will either hate you for complicating their lives, or do it because they don't make enough to care about your $12 burger. Things like the Mc Gang Bang aren't on the official menu but some places are cool and make it anyway. Trouble is you're going to have to say "McGangBang" and prepare to be met with blank stares.

Posted October 12, 2010 by David is Great

A London Fog is not a secret menu item at Starbucks, it's a not-uncommon drink in the Northwest at any coffee shop you choose to visit. It's made using steamed milk, water, and syrup. Not just vanilla syrup.

Posted October 4, 2010 by Tessie

Here in South Texas, the McDonalds does not have gravy or chocolate ice cream. Also, people come into our McDonalds and order the McGangBang, but we aren't allowed to call it that. The picture you have for it is incorrect as well, since the whole sandwich (with buns) is NOT put into the double, its just the chicken patty. Also, we carry an All American Meal which is a regular hambuger or cheeseburger with small fries and a small drink.

You have a few things wrong about Burger King. 1. The Rodeo Cheeseburger is a store option, so it is still on some menus. 2. The Veggie WHOPPER is a Whopper without the WHOPPER patty. 3. The BK Club is in the same state as the Rodeo Cheeseburger, but it has been renamed. 4. The Mustard WHOPPER and "Frings," while attainable, are not addressed as such. Saying you want a Mustard WHOPPER will get you into a game of 20 questions, e.g., is that only mustard or add mustard?, Did you want a WHOPPER no mayo, add mustard? Saying you want Frings will just get you a blank stare. However, Ask for half onion rings and half fries is no problem. 5. Burger King has a huge percentage of franchise restaurants, so much so that the corporately owned stores are like the germs that Lysol doesn't kill. These franchises all use different systems that come from various companies and time periods and are often configured in different ways. Some stores can do just about anything you can imagine to a sandwich, others cannot.

Looking through these comments... it's obvious that you can probably get these items at some locations or in some states if you ask, but not everywhere... depends on the location, the person serving you, and the owner (if a franchise). To comment and say "THIS AND THIS IS NOT TRUE" seems ridiculous... for instance, one person who posted a comment and works at Starbucks said there is a "Just say yes policy" as far as adding various items into your drinks... so the biscut in a frap is no big secret while another poster also working at Starbucks (also I assume a different location and probably different state) said the biscut in a frap cannot exist because it is Starbucks policy not to put anything but frappuccino ingredients in the blender because it could ruin the expensive blades.... then there are others saying things are or aren't secrets. Again... it probably depends on where you live and whats on the menu where you live whether it's going to seem like a secret or not. I don't know why I am reading or commenting on this seeing as I'm vegan and can't as well as don't want to eat these kind of "secrets" anyways. Why is everyone arguing over this is beyond me... who cares?

The most creative off-menu combinations, in my experience, come from employees who find themselves eating in-restaurant shift after shift. At Steak 'N Shake I learned to make a pretty mean "fettuccini alfredo:" sliced chicken breast over plain (chili mac) noodles, with cream of broccoli soup standing in for the sauce and a bit of parmesan sprinkled over the top. Anything but the same damn salad every night. Also, I'd recommend anybody without a heart condition try this once: order a shake with *real* ice cream. Shakes are usually made with a nonfat "shake base," but substituting full-fat vanilla is a revelation. Taste at your own risk!

You know, you guys have all been blasting on about how out of date this is. Yes, many of these items appear on the menu now. Yes they have new names. Yes, they may be available all the time. But, at some point in the last 20 years, they were test items you "had to know someone" to get. If they prove that people actually want something like that, then it eventually moves on to the regular menu, typically replacing a slower selling item. So go on about how out dated it is, and then remember that some of us are not so young that we dont remember when the McRib was a secret item available all the time.

This is for Sam and Steve. I live in San Antonio TX. I once thought what you all thought about 5 yrs ago when I picked up my son from his football game when he asked me to stop at McDonald's for a McGang Bang. Yet they have it, and my son loves it. When I saw the news cast I just laughed, because as stupid as it sounds, it is true. I don't remember any of the comments in which she stated that the names were great or anything about calories. One more thing, as for restaurants adding stuff to orders due to items either selling or getting thrown away, THAT IS WITH ANY RESTURANT as well as my kitchen refrigerator. Oh, and by the way, I eat an order of biscuits and gravy every friday. (it's my cheat day) So don't comment on things that you are little aware of.

Posted May 20, 2010 by R U serious

The thing about fast food restaraunts today is the greater amount of flexibility in making sandwiches. You can build sandwiches at many restaurants that aren't off the menu, which is the same with starbucks and jamba juice. Since I work at Jack in the Box, trust me, just ask, we enjoy it when people try something different. They'll do whatever, just try it! BTW i tried to buy the chicken cordon blu at Arby's, but when i went back, they had taken it off the menu. So, I asked if they still had it, and they said no. Like all franchise or chain restaraunts, it might be different from store to store.

Ok, I'm from Louisiana and they definitely sell biscuits and gravy at McD's there! But then the McD's there also sell, or used to anyway, cajun fries as a regular trade out option for plain fries and I haven't seen that anywhere else. And people calling this list a stoner's wet dream- that's an insult to stoners everywhere. I'm a stoner and the only thing on this list that I would eat is the Veggie Burger from BK. The ones here in NM use Gardenburger patties and they're really good. And the Taco Bells here all offer green sauce and they'll make anything vegetarian for you if you ask. And the chili cheese burrito is called the Enchirito- it's right on the menu, no big secret.

Wendy’s: You can recreate the legendary Birmingham (Alabama) hamburgers of the 1940s and 50s by ordering a hamburger without lettuce and tomatoes but with onions and pickles, and ask them for 2 or 3 little gold foil containers of the chili sauce they keep under the counter. Yum. Krystal: Order a double Krystal with extra pickles and mustard. Yum, yum. Rally’s: Order a $1.25 (or is it $1.29) Rally burger with extra lettuce and tomato (free). Also, order a Rally burger hold the meat, with extra mayo, for a cheap lettuce and tomato sandwich. Taco Bell: Order a bean burrito with (free) triple onions. Add the medium sauce. It’s lo-fat and Yum.

Just an FYI, you can only order hot drinks in a short from Starbucks, they don't make cold cups. The only reason short cups exist is for shots of espresso or macchiatos. Also, there is no such thing as chocolate frapp base. That's just creme base with mocha syrup added. You can't add a biscotti to a frapp because it breaks the blades, but if you get the right Barista they'll chop it up for you before they add it in. A Zebra Mocha is actually a Marble Mocha Macchiato. French Presses are available all day any day and cost the same as a standard cup of coffee, but you have to wait for four minutes while it steeps, so not good in a hurry. And if you add one or two espresso beans to a coffee frappucino, it's really fantastic. OH and if you order a shaken black tea, and substitute half of the classic pumps for peppermint, it tastes like iced refresh without having to wait as long.

Posted May 12, 2010 by B Rad

I worked at Starbucks for 5 years... we hate when you order a White Mocha/Mocha as a "zebra mocha" "white tux" or any other lame name... Just ask for half mocha, half white mocha syrup. this is pretty much true for any made up name for drinks (excluding red eye)

I don't understand the hostility felt toward fast food workers? Just because one works fast food does not mean they are stupid. It just so happens that the many that continue to work fast food are lower educated. But please tell me what teen age people can do for a living with limited hours of availability. But wait, let me back up...what's the point of complaining about that... at least they are working. With the unemployment rate the way it is, we should be proud that there are teenagers out there willing to work and not sitting at home adding to the obesity rate of America. What we should be doing is talking about the health stats of Fast Food and healthy alternatives to fast food. In regards to the secret menu, as already stated by many... most of the items are not secrets. You can go to Arby's or Wendy's and get a side of cheese for your fries for example.

I ALWAYS ask for Frozen Hot Chocolate at DQ... Its about 1 out of every 10 times that someone knows what it is and how to make it. Sometimes its even just a matter of getting the right person at the register. I've ordered it before and come back to the same place a week later and been told it doesn't exist... Cest la Vie... it makes it all the more worth it when I successfully procure one. I highly recommend asking next time you're at a DQ.... its absolutely to die for. An interesting note too (which i'm sure is the case with over 50% of the menu items listed here) - Frozen Hot Chocolate, according to my old weight watchers handbook from when it used to be on the menu, is over twice the calories of any other drink DQ makes.....

At MacDonalds I think the packets of McChicken sauce are the best to get for fries. Not everyone knows they are available upon request. For McDonalds, simple things like substitutions should have been made known. In stores that offer a dollar menu, a McDouble is the exact same thing as a double cheeseburger minus one piece of cheese. Also, you can get a couple items from the menu for a bit cheaper( with the dollar menu and substitutions). For example, if you ask for a McDouble with an extra patty and special sauce (and whatever other condiments that are normally included on a big mac) you end up with a big mac sandwich minus the extra piece of bread and a dollar. Learn how to abuse the dollar menu like a red-headed stepchild if you really want to get your money's worth at any fast food chain.

I worked there when I was younger and left to pursue a college education thankyouverymuch. Some people stay in the fast food biz their whole lives but the reality is that fast food has a really high turnover rate because employees are usually kids looking for part time jobs while they are in HS. Big Mac with Quarter Pounder Patties - This is great if you are looking to decrease the cost and calories of the classic Big Mac Sandwich. You get the entire flavor with less meat. That doesn't make sense. You replace the regular hamburger patties with 2 1\4 pounder patties? That would be more meat not less...and probably more calories.

I worked at Starbucks for 7 years throughout high school and college and sure you, CAN order a "poor man's latte" (I would advise against not ordering it that way...) but when the baristas see you using up all of the "free" milk at the condiment bar, it's safe to say you won't be on any favorite customer lists...in fact every time you come in the partners behind the bar will cringe. That's not what the condiment bar milk is for. I'm all for saving money, but don't be cheap. Spent the extra 80 cents or whatever it is and get a latte. I seriously can't even believe that's listed on this list.

McLeprichon? That is complete nonsense! First, it's called a Shamrock Shake. It was an official menu item in the 1970s, '80s, and '90s around the month of March ONLY until McDonald's dropped the ball and stopped carrying it at most restaurants because they were too busy making hip '90s ad campaigns marketed at urban Americans. They re-released it nationally in 2006 as the Shrek Shake for the third installment in the Shrek film series, and even then not every McDonald's carried it. Fast-forward to now: I have asked for this fucking thing EVERY MARCH at every McDonald's in a twenty mile radius and NONE of them carry it. By the way, I just want to reiterate how much of an idiot you are for calling it a McLeprichon.

Hey Sam... If you really worked at McD's you would know that the regular hamburgers are 1:10 pattys.... Look at the box of what you are cooking.

I worked at a Dairy Queen in the late 80s - early 90s and we made "old-fashioned sodas" off-menu for customers who requested them. Soda water mixed with one of the flavoring syrups, then vanilla soft-serve piped in. Served in something roughly the shape of a parfait glass but even larger. A web search suggests these are still available off-menu at least at some DQs.

The real secret at DQ are Cupcakes... It's a sundae cup with vanilla on the bottom, cold fudge and crumbles in the middle, topped with chocolate. You have the option of icing or not. So it's an ice cream cake you can have without the special occasion. They don't make them at all the DQ's around me but my local one will make just about anything you ask for. All the items you listed for Arby's are regular menu items here. In-fact they are currently advertising 2 french dips for $5.95.

The "two cheeseburger meal" at McDonald's is one of my favorites -- I tend to get full really quickly, but get hungry again later, so I will eat one of the the little burgers (same ones in Happy Meals) with my lunch or whatever, and save the other one for a mid-afternoon snack -- since they don't have lettuce or tomato on them, they don't get soggy. It used to be on the menu a while back, then it disappeared -- but I don't think I've ever had a McDonald's not know what I was ordering.

A couple of bucks extra on your order can conjure anything on this website. I'm sure the cashiers are capable of warning their customers on excessive caloric value - disclaimer, signature, and all. "customizing your order MAY cause death or erratic pseudo-legal threats."" ... Seriously though, by working at taco bell, I found that Managers dont take kindly to denying a customer add-ons while telling them how poisonous their food is.

Oh, one more thing I forgot-- feeding people IS most assuredly a "meaningful contribution," from everyone from the farmers and ranchers who grow our food, the truckers who move our food, the packers and processors who package our food and, yes, the cooks who cook our food. I grew up on a working cattle ranch and rice farm and my Dad taught me early on that growing people's food was one of the most honest AND HONORABLE of all professions! Never forget that It is truly IMPORTANT work, even if the pay for most of those valuable jobs IS crap. Those who look down on the people who do these jobs should have to TRY getting through life without us. We won't miss all you lawyers, MBAs and other educated idiots when you starve. But you sure would miss us!

Wow. There are some REALLY MEAN people leaving comments here. Didn't their mothers teach them that if they couldn't say something nice, not to say anything at all? What is WRONG with people? Contrary to what they think, not all people, or even Americans, who sometimes eat fast food are fat. Some are, sure, but so are some of the people shopping at the local organic farmer's market. Believe it or not, but there are fat and thin people everywhere. Also, there are people of every size, shape and color that enjoy fast food in every place that has it, NOT just in the U.S.

I created a secret item that every Taco Bell I go to here in Tulsa will make. I call it a Cheesy Gordita Crunch Meltdown. Its just a Cheesy Gordita Crunch with Lava Sauce added along with the Baja Sauce, but it is fantastic. I started ordering it when the Volcano Taco first came out and I have never ordered anything else from Taco Bell since. I have many other converts that now are exclusive to the Meltdown.

I live in the South and our McDonalds has had Gravy since I was a little girl!

Posted March 10, 2010 by Susan

Just to clear up some confusion...yes, many fast food restaurants in all areas of the country have "gravy" in the sense of sausage and cream gravy, for breakfast...but the gravy usually used in poutine is brown gravy, similar to what is usually served with Salisbury steak. I'm a chili cheese burrito devotee myself. Anyone remember when it was called the Chilito? When they changed the name I got some strange looks for a while until a nice employee explained. It is still on the menu at all the Taco Bells I've gone to here in the Midwest, and even during the brief break during the name change you could still order it even though it wasn't on the menu (new plastic menu inserts on order, I imagine).

I think you meant to say having your quarterpounder dressed like a Big Mac - one 1/4 lb patty and no middle bun - like you can get at Frisch's.

Posted March 9, 2010 by former McD worker

As far as what other people have been saying, many of these items listed are actually regular menu items. The only ones that are "Secret" are the In-n-Out ones, and even those are just to hype up the place because most people already know of them and they are listed on their website. One thing that is not always the same is the BK Veggie Whopper. I used to get them a lot, before they were advertised on the menu, which they are now, and they were made with a layer of onion rings instead of a veggie patty. I used to get these from 1995 to 1999 at the Burger King in Saratoga, California in the Westgate West shopping center until they released the "Veggie" burger and then refused to make it the old way. The Jamba Juice items are real too, but not everyone knows how to make all the drinks. I have ordered all of those Taco Bell items directly off of the main menu. One of my favorites used to be a Chili Cheese burrito and and enchirito with a sierra Mist.

This would have been a better article if it just listed the many regional variations that really are available. Too bad that most chains are not smart enough to try some of the popular ones in one area in another region. I used to live in the West Indies and it was kind of cool to go into a KFC, McD, or other chains and get Creole, indian or tropical fruit versions of regular items. One item I wish I could still get was Carl's Jr. California Roast beef, I twas shave meat like Arby's a whole mild roasted green ortega chili, jack cheese on an onion roll. It was awesome.

Look, I have no interest in the secret menus of any restaurant; fast food just isn't that important to me. And, I have to say, I am a bit surprised by the rabid response of the people responding who seem to take personally any suggestions that a fast food restaurant that they visit regularly might offer different menus in different areas. I am just surprised, I guess, by the level of passion with which you all responded. Anyway, I dropped in only to say to the author of this Sherpa thing that the ice cream treat to which he/she is referring is a "sundae" and not a "Sunday" as was used several times on this site. I am a bit saddened that in the cry of foul by all of the people responding here who disagreed with the list of menu items, only one other person seemed to notice what should be an embarrassing mistake made not only once, but several times. Oh well; I guess that isn't so important in the scheme of things. I will let you all get back to your food fight. Enjoy!

You are missing the best blizzard ever from Dairy Queen--the Mud Pie! Make sure they do not confuse it with Mississippi Mud Fudge. The mud pie is vanilla soft serve, coffee syrup, hot fudge, and oreo cookies. It was a menu staple years ago that slowly faded away, but you can still order it. If they are confused just tell them to look it up in the book.

Posted March 6, 2010 by DRW

It's "Sundae" not "Sunday." Tried ordering a Barnyard from Wendy's one time and they acted like they thought I was crazy.

Posted March 6, 2010 by Christian

I worked for Dairy Queen in high school. First of all, they're mostly (all?) franchises. At the locations in my hometown, the banana split Blizzard, chocolate chip Blizzard, and Peanut Buster Parfait are all standard, posted menu items. Incidentally, they're also the only items I've ever heard of on that list. Second, the store owners decide what toppings to stock. For instance, we didn't stock blueberries, cherries, raspberries, or butterscotch cone dip in spite of the fact that those are staples at other locations. I suspect that if you sidle up to any random DQ and order, say, that lavender blue sundae, it'll be a real crap shoot as to whether or not your server will have any clue what you're asking for.

More secret menu items you can order: KRYSTAL: Quad Cheese: 4 layers of meat and, obviously cheese, on a Krystal Fried Mars Bars: Some locations actually have them! Filet Mignon: They keep it in stock, but don't serve it unless you're "in the know" New York Strip: Another unadvertised steak treat, and wonderfully inexpensive Sushi: Each Krystal employs a professionally trained sushi chef, but he's usually too drunk to fix anything, so show up early in the evening Red Wine: It really complements the onion-y flavor of the fresh, hot, small, square burgers

McDonalds do 'doubles' for example double quarter pounder with cheese. You just need to ask, and if they say they no longer do that, ask for the duty manager to confirm that they do. Just like any restaurant you can ask for reasonable variations on their sandwich menu such as no pickle, extra relish, no mayo etc. Remember, the customer is always right!

What really amazes me is this is such simple stuff I thought everyone knew it! Also I believe a Monster Mac only has 4 beef patties thus doubling the amount of beef. Heck the burger you have pictured for a Monster Mac doesn't even have the proper Big Mac bun.

Amazing how people will go through all these semantic turns and hybrid upgrades in an unrelentless quest to convince themselves that the slop they are served at these fast food joints is worthy of such detail. If people would brown bag it a little more and learn to enjoy fruits and vegetables they would be healthier and wealthier. Then they could go out once in a while to a real restaurant and ask a real waiter for food that is not on the menu. Substituting mustard for mayo or doubling up on frozen beef patties is to gastronomy as what drinking ripple and mad dog is to fine wine enjoyment.

The picture of the "Grand Slam" at Wendy's looks like several sandwiches put together. It even looks like there are more than 4-4oz. patties on that sandwich. There is no such item at Wendy's. One thing is true, the guest is #1 at Wendy's, and they will make you what ever you order, that includes making special order sandwiches.

An amendment to Subway (#20) you can turn a "Pizza" sub into a "Chicken Pizziola" by adding the chicken chunks and bacon to the Pizza sub. It is wonderful, and it's like slapping "Jared" in the face

wow sam, you seem really mad. is it because there may be a few inaccuracies on this article, or because you work a crappy job?

Posted March 5, 2010 by turd-burglar

I agree about some of the stuff on here being downright false. McGangBang? Suicide Burger? C'mon, do you really think the PR teams of Mcdonald's and Burger King would allow for that? I mean really, c'mon.... Well either way, congratulations on spreading misinformation without making it obvious that portions of this list are bogus.

Posted March 5, 2010 by Steve

@ SAM.....you are incorrect about MOST McDonalds in the south offering gravy. I have lived in many southern locations including North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, and Oklahoma....ALL states of which offer biscuits and gravy. Not sure where in the south you are from...well maybe if you still consider Virginina or Kentucky part of the south...but sir, you are incorrect in your statement. As I have worked FULL time for McDonalds for a total of 2 years. I am now employed in the USAF(which is why I have lived in many southern states) Hell, even here in Germany where I am stationed how has biscuits n gravy. Fact check please before you make comments.

The ranch burrito from Taco John's is made with ground beef. (I've never heard of it with chicken or steak.) It only has the beef, lettuce, tomatoes and, you guessed it, ranch dressing in the burrito. It's actually pretty delicious. You can get it most places since they still have ranch for dipping potato oles. And it's still a menu item in parts of the Dakotas and Montana. I've never had a problem getting a cheesy gordita crunch at any taco bell in the Midwest or the East Coast whether they are officially on the menu or not. The most interesting thing on here is the poutine at KFC. That is good to know!

Posted March 5, 2010 by Paul

Hm, every McD's I've ever been to offers gravy, it's not a "hidden" item. I worked at three McD's.

Posted March 5, 2010 by Levi

Taco Bell will do vegetarian versions of pretty much anything on the menu if you request it.

Posted March 5, 2010 by bob

@Sam ---- I live in KY and we have Biscuits and Gravy ( listed on the menu none the less ) and we can in fact order fries 'smothered' in big mac sauce my friend gets them all the time. Maybe where you work they are just assholes and wont do it... bc there job at Mickey D's is WAYYYY above doing what the customer likes. Just sayin

I don't understand the Americas. Why do americans eat such fat foods when it makes their stomachs big? How come you don't go excel in physical forms of work?

Posted March 5, 2010 by Johan

The McKinley Mac is always on our menu up here in Alaska. Although I greatly suggest that it's name should be changed to that mountain's traditional name. The Denali Mac ;-)

Posted March 4, 2010 by rissa

I'm pretty sure the Peanut Buster Parfait is NOT a secret item nor ever has been. It's the only thing I order at DQ

Posted March 4, 2010 by Vince

Never heard of gravy at McDonald's. Must be an American thing. Someone was talking earlier about Quarter Pounder versus Big Mac. Quarter is (oviously) 1/4 lb. of meat. Big Mac is made with 2 1/10 lb. patties for a total of 1/5 lb. Take them to LCD and you arrive at 5/20 for the Quarter and 4/20 for the Big Mac. So no matter which way you look at it, making a Big Mac with quarter meat is not decreasing calories, but the opposite. I find a lot of people ask for "like a mac". So much so that a button has been added in some cases to charge for that. What that means is: No Ketchup, No Mustard, Add Lettuce, Add Mac Sauce. Another item is the Big Xtra. I'm not sure if any places still serve this item, but it's a Quarter Pounder with Cheese - No Mustard, Add Mayo, Add Lettuce, Add Tomato. And remember when you're waiting in line: 9 times out of 10 it's the customers in front of you who want a price check on every combination of items on the menu before deciding they only want a free glass of water that makes your wait long. Don't yell at the staff; they're as annoyed at those people as you are.

Posted March 4, 2010 by J

The only legit secret menu stuff I've seen is from In-N-Out, and most of that stuff isn't a secret anymore. but where I'm from, Santa Barbara, CA they don't serve the Flying Dutchman (double meat, double cheese, nothing else) all this other stuff on here is BS.

you do realize that mcdonalds "secret sauce" is just thousand island dressing right?

Posted March 4, 2010 by john

I live in Los Angeles. The McD's here do have gravy. I just saw an interview with the President of In N Out on TV a couple weeks ago, and he said that they do not make a burger above the 4x4 any longer.

At Taco Bell youcan order a Verde Enchorito or an Enchorito with green sauce instead of red sauce.

@sam... I travel quite a bit from WV, VA, FL, GA, TN, AL, SC, and here in my home state of NC all of which last time I checked were in the south. If I cant hit a CFA for breakfest I go to micky dees.... about half of them have biscuts and gravy yeah some of them don't have it but half of them do most people who live in the south know that it's a southern staple.... and about Choc. ice cream yeah I was at my mickydees here in NC today and got my "little sister" a choc. cone. so yeah... oh and every time my mom eats there she gets big mac sauce on her fries the put them in the little box for burges and put the sauce on them like normal people do ketchup. When we go out of town we ask for it on the side.

i worked at a starbucks basically forever, and there is so much wrong with the 'secret items' that i am amazed. the biggest one is this: you're not allowed to put anything but frappuccino ingredients into the blenders: that means no biscotti frap. it's against company policy, since putting food into the blenders could break the blades. and let me tell you, they are NOT cheap to replace. the only legitimate 'secret' on that list was the blended strawberry lemonade, which has indeed been taken off the menu. everything else is just an addition to an already existing drink, with added options that ARE on the menu. do some research next time.

Posted March 4, 2010 by jackie

I think you can get Cheese Fries at Wendy's but they're not on the menu anymore.

Posted March 4, 2010 by Bruce

Have they changed the weight of the hamburger patty at McDonalds since I last worked there in '95? It was 1.6 ounces then, the patties were referred to as 10 to one's(it was printed right on the box).

Since when is poutine a secret menu item at KFC? In Canada, I mean. Always has been right on the menu when I was there. I don't expect they'd have a clue what I was talking about if I tried to order it in California. Not to mention that they don't have the cheese curds -- or, you know, the fries. (I was flabbergasted that KFC in Canada had french fries on the menu. Not something that automatically goes with fried chicken and biscuits, in my head.)

Posted March 4, 2010 by Lisa

I remember when the cheesy gordita crunch was still on the menu.

Posted March 4, 2010 by iFonefox

i can verify that there are mcdonalds that offer and carry gravy, i am from ohio and every mcdonalds there does it, it wasn't until i moved to california that i realized not all mcdonalds do. but growing up, mcdonalds has had biscuits and gravy on the menu for nearly 30 years.

One more goodie for Dairy Queen. Order a Freeze in any of the flavors of their Arctic Rush. Only a Freeze is made with soft serve ice cream. An old classic, it's no longer listed but a regular order we make at any DQ we come across.

Posted March 4, 2010 by Jer Heis

Pretty neat list, except Dunkin Donuts is spelled like I spelled it not doughnuts, and turbo shot isn't a secret it is actually on the menu, says "make it turbo add a shot of espresso" and if they took it off their menu, everyone who frequents dunkins knows about this.

Actually the 100X100 can not be made anymore because the company has issued an order capping the meat increase to a 4X4. The hundred by hundred was a fluke that was sensationalized due to a viral video, but when the old lady that owns the company saw it she capped the order size out of disgust.

You know...on reading through this again, I'm thinking that a good portion of these 'secret' items (the ones that aren't just plain items that are out-of-season/disconinued/replaced) are...pretty much BS. They're not 'secret' items, they're just combinations of regular items that have gotten popular enough to have a recognizable nickname, not any sort of 'hidden' option in the register system.

Posted March 4, 2010 by Chris

Many of these aren't even secrets, as they're on the menu. Arby's French Dip and Chicken Cordon Bleu are still regular menu items where I'm located. Same with the Peanut Buster Parfait from DQ, and the Rodeo Burger from BK. I'm also pretty sure that your BK "Suicide Burger" is just a BK Quad Stacker (which is also 4 patties, 4 pieces of cheese, bacon and special sauce). Trying to order a McGangBang from McDonalds will probably just get you a lot of weird looks. It's more of a stoner-creation made popular by the internet than a "secret menu" item.

Posted March 4, 2010 by Bob

Wow, people who work in fast food seemed extremely detailed in their dissection of online articles. If you were as smart as you think you are, methinks you wouldn't be working at McDonald's or Wendy's....just saying...

Posted March 4, 2010 by Joe Blow

Even though I haven't been to an In-n-Out in 2 years (last time I visited home), I am almost certain that they no longer cater the 100 x 100 burger. The largest in the "M x C" burger range (first number is meat patties, second number is cheese slices - so a 2 x 4 is two patties and four cheese slices) that they still make is the 8 x 8. Which I will be ordering, animal-style, on my next trip home.

Posted March 4, 2010 by AaronBSam

I worked at Starbuck's for years, and the "poor man's latte" is a pitiful excuse for a "latte." I tried it after watching so many cheap customers make them on the sly. DO NOT TELL THE BARISTA THAT YOU ARE DOING THIS -- It's really gross and you'll look proud to be cheap, and really, you might as well pony up the extra 50 cents for fresh milk, not the lukewarm carafes at the condiment bar!!! A french press can be done in store for you, but it costs several dollars. Everything but the tux mocha and red eye is something that you will look like an idiot asking for. Short is a SIZE, not a secret, and while a SBUX hasa "just say yes" policy to putting whatever you want in your drink (like biscotti in a frap), it does not come out as anything worth tasting, trust me.

Posted March 4, 2010 by Yasodhara

I haven't been to Arby's in years, but Chicken Cordon Bleu used to be a regular menu item.

Posted March 4, 2010 by Jen

As someone who is a wage-slave of the Pippi Longstocking clone and has been for quite a long time, I can definitely say the author here Did Not Do The Research on #23. I've never heard of the Grand Slam (at least in a Wendy's context as opposed to the Denny's item by the same name)..that'd be a Triple with an Extra Patty (and waaay too much meat in any case. People have enough trouble fitting a Triple into their mouths as it is). I've never heard of the Barnyard, either--though I can think of a couple of my co-workers who'd like it, though I've never gotten into the 'beef and chicken on the same sandwich' thing. Big Bacon Classic...that's about the only one that even comes close to being 'secret', as it hasn't been off the menu that long, and is still in the register system. Jr. Cheeseburger Deluxe...hmmm. I can't remember offhand if we stopped listing it as a separate item or not, since all it is is a 'Jr. Cheesburger with everything'. If anything, it may be the other way around, with the listing *being* the Deluxe, and you have to order the older style (ketchup, pickle, onion and mustard) special. I know that's what happened with the double-stack (or as it's now known, 'The Double Junior Cheeseburger Deluxe' *does quick check* Actually, the www.wendys.com site lists the Jr. Cheeseburger Deluxe as a separate item, the double stack (though our store menus don't call it that anymore), *and* the 'Bacon Deluxe Single" (and Double and Triple) which is basically the Big Bacon Classic with a different name (not sure if we show that on the menus at work though). And that 'Value Crispy Chicken Club' is just flat out wrong. That sandwich is the 'Crispy Chicken Deluxe', plain and simple (I ought to know, I've gotten them for myself often enough) and while it is a reduced cost compared to the standard Chicken Club (which uses the regular chicken patty, not the 'junior-sized' Crispy), it costs *more* than the regular Crispy Chicken (which lacks the cheese and bacon) unless you get it in the Combo (I think--last I knew the Crispy and the Crispy Deluxe *combos* were the same price, and were also the same price as the Double Junior Cheesburger Deluxe combo, but they may have changed that--I don't do cashier, so don't check the menu as often anymore. :-) ) What does amuse me is that a couple of actual 'secret' items were completely overlooked--the 'Veggie Burger' (which is just a Junior with the meat patty removed, leaving the mayo and vegetables). I can't remember if we still have the 'BLT sandwich' in the system or not, though I doubt it as it's too easy to confuse with the BLT *salad*. Of potential interest to some people is the other 'secret' option, which is to request a burger without a bun--it gets served in one of the side-dish trays that we use for the Wings and the Side Salads.

You don't fry the cheese curds in poutine. They are put on top of the hot fries to melt under the gravy.

Enchiritos are on the menu at Taco Bells in Oregon, I get them all the time. THE BEST. One thing most people don't know about is the canadian bacon and cheese "burger" you can get at Burgerville. Uses their special sauce. My favorite fast food item of all time!

I have always faithfully ordered the Pizza Sub from Subway, from back when it was on the menu. I just kept ordering it, and while some people have been confused, some have gotten it. I once had a guy tell me that they "didn't make that anymore", so I asked for a custom sub, on Italian, with pepperoni, marinara, and cheese only. The look on his face once he had finished making it was priceless. :D

Oh hell, why not stop there before heading to Mickey D's so I can top my Monster Mac with greasy crumbs?

Posted March 4, 2010 by KayJay

I don't think you can order the "poor man's latte" at most Starbucks stores anymore, as they've added the "double shot" to the menu, which is the same thing over ice. It is cheaper, but most stores won't let you order this. And another name (the official one) for the zebra mocha is a marble mocha macchiato. It's white chocolate on the bottom, espresso/milk and the darker chocolate drizzled on top. I don't think I've ever heard of a red tux mocha... people usually just tell us that's what they want, without using that name for it.

Posted March 4, 2010 by Tiffany

Sadly, we can't get the Cheesy Gordita Crunch year-round at my local Taco Bell. They do have everything needed to make it, but usually refuse unless it's officially available.

Posted March 4, 2010 by Sara

Just a few starbucks corrections.... I have worked at starbucks 3 years at several different locations and I have never heard chocolate frapuccino base, almond syrups was discontinued probably a year and a half to two years ago and the Zebra mocha is also know as a marble mocha.

At least in my neck of the woods (upper midwest), Dairy Queen's Peanut Buster Parfait is a regular menu item. I should know, it's my favorite. Try it with pecans substituted for the peanuts - it's amazing.

Posted March 4, 2010 by Jason

Just to correct--the Veggie Whopper at Burger King does NOT have a veggie patty--they simply remove the beef patty from a Whopper and serve you a delicious lettuce sandwich instead. Yuck. Vegetarians should chose the BK Veggie instead, which can come as a combo with fries and a drink if you ask!

Posted March 4, 2010 by Krista

About the BK "Secret menu. You is wrong. The Veggie Whopper has no meat. The sandwich you describe is a regular menu item called the BK Veggie The "Suicide Burger" is the BK Quad Stacker, another regular sandwich The Mustard Whopper, Rodeo Burger, Chicken Club and Ham and Cheese sandwich are all regional menu items and are sold where BK franchises have agreed to sell them. Other regional sandwiches include chicken Parmesan, chicken cordon bleu, chicken deluxe (mayo lettuce tomato and cheese) and a country pork sandwich. You just need to look this up on Wikipedia or BK's website

Not sure if you guys know it or not, but a Big Mac is actually made with the small patties, the Quarter Pound patties are larger. So it would be with more calories and meat, not less.

Posted March 4, 2010 by Jeremy Elliott

You can seriously get poutine at KFC/A

Posted March 4, 2010 by Hirayuki

I work at McDonald's part-time, and someone should really do some fact checking. For example, 80% of McDonald's are franchised and almost none of them in the south (where I work) offer gravy. Also, making the Big Mac with Quarter Pounder meat would INCREASE the cost and calories. Big Macs are made with 1/8 lb patties and QPers are made with 1/4 lb. Also, you can't get anything SMOTHERED in Mac Sauce, you can order a side of fries with a side of Mac Sauce, but anyone who operates a restaurant and knows anything about food cost would stop any worker from SMOTHERING FF. As for the Neopolitan Shake, any shake you order from McDonald's is half vanilla, half whatever flavor you order, so it's nothing special. I don't know many McDonald's with Chocolate ice cream. Again, most of these things are not true, or just common sense, as McDonald's does food inventory atleast once a week and would not have these ingredients just laying around, that's called waste and cuts into profit.
